It depends how often I run the commands. Subversion -> darcs, git, etc. was like a breath of fresh air. I know that was going out to the network but still latency can be a killer.

MySQL and PostgreSQL aren't in the same ball park as Mongo. It's irrelevant. Based on merits, architecture, and implementation Riak handily beats several of the DBs listed. It's a glaring omission and not the only one. As many chose Other a

Was that dig at Android and iOS's reliability intentional? I find iOS very stable and reliable (started with iPhone OS 3.0). Android less so but not too bad. My Nexus One had an occasional problem with the lock screen in 2.2 that has since

The Changelog blog isn't half bad: http://thechangelog.com/ The blog + podcast combo is a cool idea, I don't really to podcasts but 5by5 rekindled that interest so I might check it out. I usually just follow or fork projects I end up usin

Been using that for a few weeks, it's great. I previously used brotherbard's experimental branch from github and he told me about it. I use GitX for committing and browsing and the command line for the rest. None of the GUIs have blown me a

Ok don't include JavaScript. So there is only PHP that does this? I'm just trying to find out where the article is coming from. I didn't think this was a common theme amongst languages.

Do so many languages conflate arrays and hashes? I know of PHP and JavaScript. PHP was not designed at all so no point discussing it. JavaScript was initially written in a week so we forgive Brendan Eich.

It comes down to caring enough to do it right. You have to love it and be a pedant who pays stringent attention to detail. You can be smart and motivated but unless you really want to know why and how it all works and fits together it's har

No apologies because none are warranted. Just watch Apple for a few years and you'll see how routine this is. What if WebGL turns out to be a flop? (I know it's unlikely at this point, this is purely hypothetical) If that were the case they

Apple often uses frameworks itself in one generation of the OS (Mac or iOS) and then makes it public in the next release after they've worked out the kinks. This is similar, they are testing out WebGL in something under their thumb that the

I agree that a switch to Windows does not make sense. I fled to OS X because I'm a Unix biggot and don't want a system that doesn't ship with zsh or bash. Apparently darwin's posix API sucks and is different from Linux but I'm not affected

A possible wireless solution could be based on having tons of fiber laid out so that you can put antennas and base stations basically anywhere. 4G and LTE are okay but nothing close to 1 gbps. We need a new wireless standard to saturate tha

Apple is not invincible, look at the iPhone 4 antenna fiasco. I agree that it's bad that they deny most problems instead of being transparent about them. It can be extremely frustrating, you file a Radar ticket and then it goes into a black

Apple is far bigger than their cult following. If you attribute their success to the cult you are only fooling yourself. A cult alone doesn't buy 200,000,000+ iOS devices. People generally do not use Apple products that suck, not everything

Auto-save coming to games since 10 years ago. Who cares? This is OS-wide auto save and heavily promoted as how all modern OS X apps should behave. That's far bigger than implementing it in one suite of software and stopping there.
