When did Apple sue iOS jailbreakers? Did it go to court or did the defendants settle? edit: Nevermind, looks like they haven't actually sued any jailbreakers.

One problem with putting blinders on yourself is that you lose touch with the zeitgeist of a site like this. Also, is it worth creating and installing browser extensions for flurries of stories that usually peter out after a week or so? Obv

Unfortunately there aren't any other smart phones that I could recommend for my mom in good conscience. I haven't tried WP7 yet which actually looks like it's made for humans. Unlike my Nexus One which is no good for mom yet for a number of

Basho themselves have complained about being called a document DB. Probably because you can store absolutely anything in Riak. Regardless of the reason I think we can safely call it a KV store and be done with it. edit: And by Basho themsel

That is eye opening, thanks. I can't believe how much faster new is. There's a glimmer of hope though. In Firefox 4.0.1 Object.create is almost as fast as new Constructor. If other implementations caught up in this respect what are your fee

Touché, you're right. MS is amicably working out license deals, very unlike a patent troll.

I think one reason it's news is because people have predicted that Adobe CS and Office will never be on the Mac App Store. If there's a competing store that does offer such titles a few big titles like that are enough to give it some steam.

You don't get to start a paragraph with "So" when the previous sentence began with "Estimating that". That is nothing to base a conclusion on. Regardless it's funny and sad to see MS acting like a common patent troll. Sure they need revenue

A lot of us on hacker news have more than 100GB of data to back up. I use Dropbox all the time but have no need for more than the free account. Dropbox is only for syncing. If I need to back something up it goes to CrashPlan, where I store

Pretty typical from zdnet. That site is mostly garbage. Just as Gruber doesn't say nice things about Microsoft and/or Windows, neither do Ed Bott and Mary Jo Foley say nice things about Apple and/or OS X. Ed Bott's Windows Expertise: http:

Perhaps we'll have a system akin to DNS that resolves phone numbers to IPs. Dynamic DNS functionality could be built-in or layered on top by a provider like Google Voice, so that you don't give up one-number-that-follows-you. Whichever devi

When a language has a deficiency people make up for it with libraries. If you don't acknowledge the "class pattern" for object inheritance then you are dismissing an incredibly popular use of OO. Whether or not code reuse via OO is a good t

There's no argument there. However I see more new projects that use MIT/BSD/Apache or similar than GPL. It could just be the projects I come across and/or are interested in, but I keep pretty broad tabs on technology and use various OSs on
