What I've seen of Tup is good but it doesn't add enough to convince me to switch away from make which is already everywhere. CMake and similar tools don't attract me because they're not language independent. The best thi

On Windows that's VirtualAlloc with MEM_RESERVE: Reserves a range of the process's virtual address space without allocating any actual physical storage in memory or in the paging file on disk. https://msdn.microsoft.c

I wrote a small command line program to read NOS Teletekst: https://github.com/sjmulder/nostt It supports colour but not the special teletext drawing characters as they seem to have no Unicode equivalents.

This is the whole point of such a feature. Pipe wrench guy demands password, you give the duress password. Re. parent comments, I suppose you could have the script delete all traces of login_duress (and itself).

All fair points. I didn't really consider creating processes in a non-fork way. I'd probably miss the easy transfer of unnamed shared objects you get with forking. How do unrelated processes usually initiate communication?

I'm open to arguments, but right now I feel that threads are (for many uses cases) a poor man's fork. Like threading, forking gives you concurrency but unlike threading it also gives you isolation. There are plenty of IPC mechanis

I find the cut man page (looking at the OpenBSD one) very clear. It's just 62 lines (fits on a screen), has only 5 flags and the 2 examples clearly show how the tool is used. The xargs man page is ought to have some examples, I agree.

If you’re using a GNU system now you might be surprised by the quality of the BSD man pages, and documentation in general. Concise but still comprehensive, and plenty of examples. The tools (like man) aren’t really the problem here, the doc

For non-jailbroken devices that wouldn't be possible in the same way, but an app could certainly implement SSH with libraries (photos, contacts, etc) exposed as a filesystem and interpret a set of commands (like rsync).

Agreed on the gesture, I feel that’s implemented well. But I suppose the author is talking about the animation you get when using the keyboard. I also find myself annoyed switching spaces on macOS vs. dwm, tmux, etc. Something else: I got m

Do NOT get the Nokia 3210 (2017) or any other phone running the S30+ OS: - High input latency. Makes texting quite painful. I’m usually one or two button presses ahead of the display. - Very limited storage capacity for texts. It seems to b

What's the point of adding such a massive cookie bar, supposedly for the GDRP, if there's no way to say no? If they don't need/want to be compliant, why have it at all?
