This doesn't require any external tools, you just have to set up the config files. I think this is about as close to 'built in' support as you are going to get.

I've been using an old mobile as an alarm clock for years. It's UI is much easier than a clock-radio (I was never able to figure those out), you can change the song and volume and it has a builtin battery. It's most well-designed not-alarm-

If a trait is determined by a mutation it is inborn but not inherited. This is one possible explanation, but I am not a biologist, and I am not sure when the op intended.

No, it may not be a dense read. But this is exactly what made it hard to finish (for me). Meandering anecdotes and self-indulgent tangents bore me. I've read a couple of Hoftstader's books and I think he could really benefit from an editor
