If Google just doesn't want unionized engineers, it could just fire all engineers. Obviously they need to balance their various objectives and firing productive people is costly to the business. I think they are hoping more to send a s

If you need 2 approvals at Google, then usually 1 is for readability in a specific language. I.e. one of the reviewers is understood to mostly be looking at code style and not domain logic. In my experience, you more often get the other phe

AFAIK jai only uses LLVM in release mode since it does slow down the build. This makes sense since if you have optimizations off, you only have to do codegen. If you are using LLVM for codegen, then you have to codegen twice! Once for LLVM

Similarly, recaptcha prevents this as well. Recaptcha primarily checks that it's running on a real browser on the correct website using botguard. Then it might give you the CAPTCHA challenge to prove you are human. It's not possib

A more sensical analogy in paper ballots might be replacing a ballot. E.g. a counter scoops up some ballots into one sleeve and dumps some from the other while shuffling them around. In a chad-based system though, the vote might actually ch

Low impact can also be stressful for me (I might be unusual). First, there is guilt that you are being paid all this money to twiddle your thumbs. After you stop feeling guilty for the wealthy corporation, you realize that you aren't f

I've known a few people who broke their back window from throwing stuff into the bed and accidentally hitting the glass. It's probably a case of "don't do that", but some people might appreciate it.

k-Anonymity doesn't really work with non-uniform distributions. E.g. if x is your hash prefix and d is a particular domain that matches that prefix, then we can apply Bayes rule: P(d|x) = P(x|d) * P(d) / P(x) P(x|d) is 1 in this c
