We have a product which used to run on Unity Webplayer. After the Chrome NPAPI deprecation we lost about 50% of our users. WebGL wasn't done and still isn't really working. Our experience is the same as described in the article. M

WebSockets work for Unity WebGL. Not sure if there is an official implementation, but we use it in a multi-player game. We specifically run Photon Game Server with WebGL and WebSockets.

We have a medium sized website with lots of user generated content. Think Google has indexed ~2m unique pages and they crawl ~420K every day. This costs us about 1,5GB/day in traffic. Dedicated servers with volume traffic option usuall

Is twitch using Amazon for streaming video content? I wasn't aware that it was cost efficient to deliver "free" video streams using AWS.

For a gaming site we run CPC is not close CA$0.5, more like CA$0.08. I'm also curious as to how this has developed for Plenty of Fish since 2006.

Have not used NGINX cache, but are a heavy user of Varnish + NGINX. Varnish is really good at caching and together with NGINX it makes a solid solution. NGINX cache seems (from skimming the docs) simple and it might be enough for your requi

Recently upgraded from MySQL 5.1 -> MariaDB 5.5 with no issues what so ever. We have ~90 tables where the largest table has 40,000,000 entries. I configured the new database servers as slaves of the old ones. This enabled me to verify th

Never heard about G-wan before, but from a quick read-through it is not quiet standard. It seems like somewhat unusual design, but interesting. From the g-wan website: G-WAN is an all-in-one solution because communicating with other servers

oh well, I think it is common to clone quiet a few repositories per user. I know its one of the most frequent things I use github for at least. Copy url, git clone url to local.

Somehow I still prefer Jon Hicks original re-brand of the phoenix logo the best. That is the 2004-2005 version displayed in the article. See [1] for an earlier evolution write-up of the brand logo. http://thinsmek.com/a-his

I guess this is more an issue with GitHub OAuth permissions which are not fine grained enough. What you want is read-access to all repositories. I would not give anyone access to all my private repositories, however.
