I always had a special place for Google in my heart, since 2008. And never thought they would lay people off. It's sad really, despite I never having worked with them. I feel pretty gloomy about tech career overall. Is it even wort

When open source providers say 'alternative' to a commercial solution, do they consider the serious engineering needed to scale such systems? I mean I used SigNoz, and it's comparable to Datadog feature wise but nowhere clo

I see a lot of comments here criticising the post. May be my point of view is different on this, but I liked the post. It's raw and seems honest, like an un-edited version of a stream of thoughts (the author mentions he used speech t

Views mean money. And what gets views is politics, lewd images and whatever the hell the algorithm likes.

I have realised that when the ratio of the upvotes to the number of comments for a post on HN is high, the probability of the post being good is high. This one is a good example.

What do building architects think of Ayn Rand's treatise on architecture in the FountainHead?

I read it superficially. And it's okayish. Again, nothing against the author.

Again. Packt publication books are rarely good. Nothing against the author. But I have been time and again disappointed with their content quality. They go for quantity of books over even the basic quality.

How does one even begin Designing a software system for such a complex process! The impact of a bug in such system would be huge!!

Yeah, technically it is called a recall because of NHTSA's terminology. But it's not a recall in traditional sense. It's an OTA, where customer's cars don't have to be physically recalled.

I commented on a post on X stating about the recall. I said that it's an OTA. But many people said technically it's a recall.

This is also true of tech news. We (I) scour HN and Reddit and TC for up to date news. We refresh tech Twitter for a hot take. We watch tutorials passively.

They overstated the capabilities. But even with some additional prompts, the results were amazing! If this had been shown 15 months ago, we would all be going gaga over it.

Neither Gemini nor Steve Jobs faked. They upsold it. It happens all the time in marketing. The worst we can say they did is "overstated".

I am reading this a lot, it wasn't faked. It was upsold. Even with some additional prompting, I think it was still impressive. Steve Jobs also faked the original iPhone presentation, when it was not stable enough for a demo.

The article makes it seem like large scale quantum computing is around the corner. If so, military likely already has it even if in a primitive form.
