It's been improving rapidly. The upcoming (imminently) 1.1 has a large amount of modern UI affordances, such as on-canvas gizmos that at times actually are easier to use than e.g. the Fusion ones. I'm a heavy Fusion user, but for

> Why is Wayland so complicated? It's not particularly complicated, and certainly a lot simpler and cleaner than X11 in almost every way. The reality of the situation is that there's sort of a hateful half-knowledge mob dynamic

Feels like the world religions that doubled down on reincarnation/rebirth/cyclic narratives were, literally, ahead of their time. Cherish it if the Great RNG In The Sky gave your simulation cycle a good seed.

There are actually cases this has happened in (e.g. re-releases using ScummVM under the hood; id basing products on community source ports, etc.), but it's not always that simple. Chris Sawyer as creator for example is known to have pa

Your stance is aggressive and provocative, but no less so than the challenge AI poses to software developers in general. I think what you say should be seriously entertained. And as someone who loves Python and has written a lot of it, I te

On the other hand, AI being very good at everything while select humans may only be very good at some things is likely also a quality we want to retain (or, well, achieve).

Honestly, a Pi 5 is powerful enough to run a full desktop very comfortably. It's not a low-powered computer anymore by any means.

My anecdotal experience is rather different. I write a lot of C++ and QML code. Codex 5.3, only released in Feb, is the the first model I've used that would regularly generate code that passes my 25 years expert smell test and has turn

The module that does the annual donation thingie should also load here, there isn't really any differentiation by the shell package as it's handled elsewhere via a mechanism that's agnostic to it.

Just to manage expectations: Big Screen is a fairly old project at this point, that has always had a relatively small number of people showing it some love (though I understand recently there's been an uptick again). This is not a new

The EUV and other factory equipment everyone's using is predominantly European. High-end testing tools used in R&D are largely European. The fabs aren't, and that is no small thing. The tech stack is there though. It's pr

It's not the general public who know nothing that develop and release software. I am not specifically talking about this issue, but do remember that very little bad happens in the world without the active or even willing participation

This shows a general problem that FreeCAD still has: Inside an initially off-putting and frustrating UI experience is a really good application trying to get out, but at the moment a new user still has to dig it out themselves. For example,

Note as a Linux user, the only version of Fusion you can really use is the (bad) browser one, which requires a $900/year subscription. I like Fusion, but this is a powerful motivator to make due with FreeCAD or Dune3D.

I'm impressed by the people doing this job. How do you turn off at the end of the shift and go home to sleep, when you know an hour more of work could make a more immediate difference? How does work/life balance work in this profe
