"They found the remedy killed up to 90% of MRSA bacteria and believe it is the effect of the recipe rather than one single ingredient." Believe? Don't you want to like, um, test that? You know, science. This whole thing stink

* Improve how? Isn't that the whole discussion? * That will just amplify the effect of featured apps and then you lose all meaningful organic app discovery and a large chunk of the meritocracy of the store. * Great but that will probab

* That assumes other stores are better. They are not. * That would basically open the door to insanely easy piracy. Like on Android. * A fairly nebulous and meaningful requirement * I don't think it is an algorithm.

Can't you direct users to the "report a problem" link in the email receipt that Apple sends to them? That's how I've always dealt with users wanting a refund on iTunes.

My point is that it seems entirely probable that there is no fix. What exactly are you suggesting that Apple could do to level the playing field any more?

While I agree with the basic thrust of the article (Apple is not your friend, is often vindictive in response to criticism and could do more to help developers), I always feel when reading App Store articles that there's quite an odd u

TDV seemed to be a magnet for oddball online communities. One day, irritated with all the abject nonsense, requests for him to do their English homework, and speculation about the number 42, that was posted to his main forum, Douglas reques

The company imploded before Douglas died. The dotcom collapse was the final nail. Also Douglas being far more wrapped up in trying to get the film made probably didn't help. He had moved to America and was barely involved with TDV afte

It stinks for the user. It's way better for developers who aren't into having their software pirated though. Which in the end is better for the users.

I often reply "I don't know" when asked about things I don't know. It's invariably met with an explicit or implicit questioning of my worth. I can see why people learn never to admit ignorance.

Yeah, good luck with that. My experience is that the Amazon App Store has basically zero traction outside the US and UK. And then even if you do manage to sell a few then you'll probably never see the money as there isn't one Amaz

Back at university in the early 90s, I worked on a driving simulator made up of a Rover 216GTi in front of a projector screen powered by a SGI Onyx. One evening we just sat in the car, put some Floyd or something on the stereo and just watc

Historical ranking data seems to show this isn't true. Sales started to drop at the end of February and did not recover when 2048 came out. It's still doing pretty darn good though.

My guess is that the iOS SDK has been expanded to allow for a second screen that is output over lightning. So no, it's not mirroring the phone screen, but displaying another screen powered by the phone. This would seem to fit with it b

I'm sure you can do all that with bluetooth on the iPhone too. The point here is the touchscreen appears to be an extension of the phone.

I drove myself insane for a morning recently when I couldn't work out why a site of mine that had happily been working for years suddenly stopped displaying some images in the carousel. They were there in the HTML but Chrome reckoned t

Do 1 star comments really go to the top or is the problem here that these kids think they do? Isn't it more likely it's just the most recent reviews that are getting shown first?

The problem is that at some point society became insanely risk-averse, especially for new things. Cars are OK despite being the most insanely dangerous things on the planet because we grew up with them. American Football is OK despite the l

Incidentally, I really like William Shatner's cover. It brings out the contempt in the lyrics. And it rocks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ainyK6fXku0

A lot of people here seem to be asking "so what?" In my small experience, the "so what" is that, for example, just today I get an email saying that feature X of my app doesn't work on tablet Y. So now what? Do I go

I think what isn't understood, even though it is completely obvious, is that people need to know about your app. Emailing a few blogs really isn't going to do it. For anyone to know about your app, it has to hit a major, major web

I had the good fortune to contribute a few of the alternative subtitles for the first season DVD. Unfortunately, I don't think anybody noticed them, even with a BB writeup. http://boingboing.net/2006/11/15/it-crowd-dvd-has-sub.html

They are abnormal in the sense that they are a minority. It's not a value judgement. Do you accept that those with enough proficiency to be creating commercial software have different modes of computer usage to the majority that don't?

It's simply stunning to me to see how long it's taken the computer geeks to work this out. Apple stopped making toys for you over a decade ago and you are only just realising it now? I guess this is another consequence of the filter bubble.
