This is a thoughtful question. For me, it's the personal contact and supporting a local business. Amazon actively (and knowingly) harms the book trade and ignores the fact that its third-party sellers sell counterfeit items. Browsing a

I use two Chrome extensions “Unpinterested!” for Google and “Not Pinterested” for Ecosia that both remove Pinterest’s search engine effluent from results.

French is the same: j’ai faim, and Italian is too: ho fame. Both mean “I have hunger”. I wonder if English is in the minority of languages that use “I am” instead of “I have”? Interestingly, German doesn’t use the same construction for thir

No, I don't trust Grammarly one bit. I think there was even a question in their FAQ asking "are you a keylogger?". The answer went along the lines of "No! Absolutely not! But also yes." My team still uses it despite

My utter contempt for what Amazon has become is well established in my comment history. For anyone who wants to know more about their predatory practices, specifically around bookselling, then I recommend that you pick up a copy of “How to

Yep, I get the same. My Gmail is a simple first initial + surname, and I've received payslips, job offers and, most entertainingly, invitations to speak at a neurosurgery conference in Brazil.

Coming to Windows programming from x86 assembly language at the lowest level and Clipper at the highest, VB6 was awesome. It made rapid application development really easy.

Fantastic anecdote, thank you for sharing. I love these kind of stories. It reminds me of the Dwarf Fortress “dead cats in taverns” bug [0], which just goes to show the detail that goes into these game mechanics. [0] https://www.
