No, Apple made some changes to mitigate that problem. > An AirTag will beep at a random time between eight and 24 hours if it is away from its owner's iPhone. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-57351554

Thieves who steal high-value vehicles have methods to prevent these things from happening. But for the ordinary car theft, it does sound like a nice idea. Though you'd have to buy into the Apple ecosystem and the anti-follow feature co

Absolutely, the project did name it POSH, but using caps to distinguish a name is not recommended as it still causes confusion. Must admit i haven't looked more into the tool due to this. So that's something to be aware of when na

Which is at least transparent and importantly: it leaves the user with a choice of not using Google services, e.g. Gmail, Drive and Backup to name a few. And scanning for CSAM is certainly commendable, but the whole issue with Apple's

Thanks for collecting a list of countries, makes it so much easier to figure out where the problems are. It could be the UN leading the way on this, with a budget and a mandate to have these plants shut down or modified. The timeframe must

Could anyone have imagined law enforcement using Corona contact-tracing data for other purposes ? Because that actually happened, and in a democratic country even. So it's not hard to imagine what less democratic countries could demand

And depending on that review you could find yourself on the other end of some "questioning" from law enforcement. Yes, you might laugh and say that won't happen, but on-device scanning is the first step. In less trustworthy c

It would be better if Apple refused to implement client-side scanning altogether. Making a claim we know they cannot uphold is pointless. Oh and it's time to update this ad: https://www.businessinsider.com/apples-ces-ad

As far as I know Android devices do not implement the scheme that Apple is considering. But you're right that some users absolutely do not care (or can only use Apple devices), they will now give up their right to privacy. But you don&

And i think if you're working on these systems, then it's all too easy to only think about the happy scenario. But time has shown that an initial good concept will transform into something worse. We have a very recent example with

It is not a surveillance initiative yet, but it will be trivial to expand upon the scanning capabilities once established. You have more trust in Apple, something i don't. So we see this change in a different light.

This is shaping up to be a monumental mistake for Apple, which by now should result in scrapping all client-side scanning. If not, it will be an interesting test of how many users Apple will lose over this. Those Apple devices i might upgra

I wish more countries would pick up legalization of cannabis. Anyhow, i suppose there is still a black market for other drugs, that would be curbed with legalization. It would be quite a feat if Canada were to be the first, but it seems mor
