They're not lying, there are just significant internal miscommunications. A lot of the big companies right now have a lot of internal disagreements on the policies that pop up at various stage of the process.

A pretty damn large portion of people claim the standard deduction. They are paid on W2. Their investments are on 1099s. The cost basis are in supplemental documents that could easily be provided to the IRS in a format they can handle. Yeah

Or it could be the opposite. I have a high-end gaming PC. I have a Switch. They feel pretty much interchangeable to me when it comes to graphics. The difference is nights and day...and I don't care one bit. Frame rate is another story

The smoke coming out of a coal powerplant exists for a good reason. Its still pollution. The fire alarm example is a bad one. They don't go off hundreds of times a day for hours on end. If they did, yes, we'd need a different solu

There's more and more companies that don't give you coding exercises at all. They'll have code reviews, or a debugging exercise, system design, all the other stuff, but will skip the algo question. I hate algo/whiteboard

Bad product management. You can bet the team is like "WTF are you doing asking for this?!", and they're like "we need to hit or OKRs and I need an impactful $$$ win to get my promotion, deal with it".
