When we used 5Ys at Uber SRE I always like to say that you are looking for a tree of depth 5 but if it's width 1 you've not tried hard enough. "Root cause" or at least the idea there was a single factor that was the defi

I find it interesting with many of these criticisms that subject matter experts on maths, sciences, etc think that they are also subject matter experts on the pedagogy of maths, science, etc especially at a high school level. Many advanced

iOS Safari now support “content blocker” extensions which means you can download 3rd party blockers (such as Firefox Focus). It’s pretty non-obvious feature until you know about it.

My Audi e-tron has this habit of switching the adaptive cruise control to the on-ramp speed limit even when I’m in the middle of the freeway. It’s something I’ve learned to deal with but the sudden attempt to break from 70 to 55 is pretty b

According to the UN [1] 2019 worldwide mortality was 58m people. So that’s roughly a 12-22% increase assuming mortality stayed the same. [1] https://www.un.org/en/development/desa/population/publicatio...

It would be great if the JSON data could be easily plugged into a linter so you could quickly validate if you are likely to have issues on a given client or not.

A lot of the articles I’ve read (including this one) say that Pfizer had to invest $2B to develop this vaccine. However this article says they bought seven $200M machines to manufacture lipid nanoparticles. This implies to me that $1.4B of

I’d love to see something like this for game mechanics, although that might be harder to achieve. For example being able to find games that have certain movement mechanics and compare them would be amazing. Like “jump”, “double jump”, “slid

This is why writing scripts/tools for ops work is helpful. You can do `alias mv='mv -n'` or similar but then you have to hope everyone is using the same shell prompt, etc. Even if your tiny script is just: ``` #!/usr

I wonder if they could do something with Proton to make a Linux desktop version. Since Valve made Proton for games I imagine that graphics cards support for things like CUDA might work just fine still.

If Apple are really bothered by this they should just make 2 versions (lightening and USB-C) and let consumers choose. They already do multiple versions for radios (GSM vs CDMA) so I can’t imagine this would be a terrible challenge for them
