The internal memo I got said "Anonymizing user log data". I doubt we are going to try to put it back together. You give us too much evil genius credit.

I think the author's methodology (or at least the article's synopsis of it) seems a somewhat flawed premise. Suggesting that we focus less on conventional medicine in order to raise the bar in other areas neglects the massive waste and allo

There is a reason it's called "Safe Sleep". If you have forgotten to save files or a number of other thing and get powerloss RAM only suspends are gone. That could really suck. Personally I can live with the extra small delay. I've toyed wi

Obvious you should agree with a charity's agenda before you help them. The problem I was refering to was the charities getting advice about technology that isn't trying to sell them something. Obviously consultants have to eat too, but a lo

Yahoo have been doing some stuff with Social Innovation Camp ( http://www.sicamp.org/ ) in the UK this year. The SI camps have been an incredible success in helping charities. I cannot recommend doing this kind of stuff enough. Part of the

I'd like to see these stats from a larger jobs site. We have an API from Hotjobs ( http://developer.yahoo.com/hotjobs/ ) so maybe someone could do that (or I might if I have time).

This is great. I think "shameware" is much more compelling than DRMware. If you remind people that they are costing a small developer business and then let them pirate anyway then you are going to catch the people who might pay. The people

Isn't relevance defined by context? If he was doing an image search he wanted images, not text. What about Ads for products or Stock photography or Celeb sites with more photos?

I think the author really nails it. He isn't object to the ads existing, he is objecting to them being irrelevant. Ads that are relevant almost aren't Ads, they are almost content.

Map Reduce is hardly secret and it's not like other people such as Yahoo!, Facebook and others aren't using it. Google might have a head start but that's about it. I wonder how long that head start will last with a collaborative Open Source

Talking to the police early is important for a number of reasons, one of the primary ones being you can say that you did if the worst happens and it becomes a full blown stalking.

Talking with some of the Moko folks at MobileCampLondon last year they were telling me about the issues with truly open mobile devices. Even Moko has a couple of closed components, namely the radio. The carriers and the FCC seem to be prett

bee brains could have neural nets that produce similar output as the quantum physics models I think that's the point of the article. Bee brains couldn't with only a few million neurons. That's not to say she is right.

This seems like it would pair really nicely with the Feedback Army site we saw recently. It might be interesting to incite Turkers to do virtual usability studies with this technology. Especially if you could give them a task to accomplish.
