That's the point. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't worthy of discussion. Only flag something if it violates an HN policy.

If electric cars take off and everyone starts charging them at home, you can be pretty certain we'll see a huge spike in the electricity usage of the average American home.

I suspect you're overlooking Guido's sense of humor. He was making a joke with his acceptance of the idea.

Neo4j is limited to the ram available on a single machine. Cassandra can scale across many machines. You won't get nearly the same performance though as you would with neo4j.

By clicking 'unsubscribe', the implied intent is that the email is unwanted. So I can either mark an email as 'unwanted' by clicking 'unsubscribe' or by clicking 'report spam'. I'll always give the sender the benefit of the doubt and try

Microsoft actively restricts and controls what can be installed by OEMs now. That's why it's gotten so much better with Win7. The crappy first use experience was ruining Microsoft's image, because people associated the cruft with them.

So my question is, what if TurnItIn quoted a student's paper instead of the teacher quoting an email? I ask because these university's are effectively giving these student's papers to TurnItIn to use and make a profit on however they please

Use WolframAlpha instead: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%24176%2C000+in+manhatt... More accurate and they give a lot more details to the data. *Note: I specifically stated 'Manhattan' in that query

The hacker tried to get this lawyer labeled as a sex offender and a terrorist. That would, in a quite literal way, ruin the lawyer's life. Not everyone has the resources or technical know-how to understand and log what was happening. Attemp

It is too short. This hacker tried to get his neighbor labeled as a sex offender and a terrorist, on top of trying to ruin his marriage, family, and get him fired. All of those things, especially the first two, would have screwed up the res

In Japan, groping women and taking pictures up their skirts is a very very common practice among men. That's why they have women only passenger cars on trains[1]. The camera sounds are there to deter this behavior. [1] http://en.wikipedia.

Any examples of how G+ is behind in UI? I find the G+ interface orders of magnitude more pleasant to use than FB. It's not perfect, but it handles all of the same use cases that I used FB for, and does so in a simpler more sensible way.

You really need to look at Coffeescript ( http://jashkenas.github.com/coffee-script/ ) and Emscripten ( https://github.com/kripken/emscripten ). I use coffeescript for all of my javascript development now and life has never been better. I'v

It's not so much 3 states, as it is two states and a superposition of both states, meaning that the qubit is effectively both a 0 and a 1 at the same time.

I think you're trying too hard to rationalize Google's claims. With regard to the 1-in-1000 signals, clearly they have that many signals because not all 1000 signals are strong for every query. In Google's case, they "Googlebombed" Bing, bu

Just for those who don't see the error: 2(a^2 - ab) = a^2 - ab On this line, a^2 - ab is 0 (look at line 2). You wind up dividing both sides by 0, thus resulting in the false proof.
