There've been a few of articles on here about it so I'm sure you've caught it already, but I'll just say: praise what the child does, not who they are. Praise a child for doing a good job or trying again after failure, not for being smart o

I wonder if you could build a business around watching TV for potential fads and making one off sites like this as quickly as possible with adwords slapped on. Think it'd be lucrative?

You wouldn't be able to do that with someone who plays fast enough. Even if you could do it on your serve 25% of the time, that's only an 1/8th of all points. And you'd probably hit a lot of your attempts to hit the edge off the table.

Yes, exactly. As an adult, I realize how and why everything happened the way it did. But what I still don't understand is how to fix it. How do you radically change yourself, especially when the thing you're trying to change negatively affe

Yeah, I do this too. I do it so intensely that it's practically the story of my life. High praise and expectations from parents in youth led me to be afraid I'd never reach them. Oh shit, did I just do it again? Seriously, I think years of

When you finally understand everything there is to know, if that is possible, then I think you will be so far gone from human that you will be impervious to boredom.

Sounds a lot like believing in Christ because it might be true, and good God what if it is? Also, what if the revival process works but not perfectly, and you come out on the other end severely disabled? (Maybe they've gotten it to work on

Not Wi-Fi. This is white space. I've heard estimates of 20mbits but I'm not sure if anyone really knows yet.

I was a little confused about how it could be out of beta without any steps up to this, but apparently it auto-updates without asking or telling. Not complaining, but that's news to me.

How does philosophy imply choice?

Well, it's two different things, obviously. "Why continue to exist?" is personal but "Why does anything exist?" is much more interesting. Except, I'm starting to think it's a loaded question, as your parent, I think, was implying. Due to ou

Hm, I disagree. Have you looked at Zappos? They have every kind of shoe imaginable, including many very expensive men's dress shoes. Zappos's market is anyone who uses shoes, which is pretty much everyone.

great idea, but the design feels a little cluttered at first. make the raw feed sidebar a different background color? also, maybe a link to a page with just the raw feed?

Here's a Radiohead cover using a similar idea: http://www.vimeo.com/1109226?pg=embed&sec=1109226 To me, his use of the scanner is most interesting.

The point was that belonging to a community is more important to the strength of your moral compass than your religion of lack of it and that in America, religion fosters community. About communities, I agree.

We don't have control over effort. We think we do because that is one of the functions of consciousness. Even looking at it from that perspective, there are factors like energy level and passion that seem to exist in some people with the re

If you look at statistics of deaths per 100,000 per year (for example), yes, flying is safer than driving. But if you look at the likelihood of death per hour, driving and flying are equally as safe. It's just that you don't fly as much.

Of course, most people don't pirate for that reason -- they do it because it's free. A site for any band to upload their music to be available for free with a built in donation system would be popular indeed. Maybe even profitable?
