You haven't appreciated MacOS until your entire family has hosed windows 10 laptops that they've been saving up to bring around so you can fix them at Christmas...

The ethic of reciprocity is a simple logical construct which defines a survival advantage for the adherents to it. Religious values are merely an abstraction over that which define a lot of specific super-rules, some based on faith and some

Random crazy rant there. Even as a militant atheist, this is nothing to do with religious values. It’s the ethic of reciprocity. But bastards are just bastards and that’s life. Holding people accountable for being a bastard and saying “no t

Thanks for the tip. I've driven past that a number of times and meant to look it up but never got around to it.

Try Tempo for JIRA. Seeing 60 second load times for pages sometimes. I’m going to have to open a timesheet entry for filling in timesheet entries.

Then there’s NTFS behind that. Just use a VM. Ten times faster.

Yes this isn’t a science versus religion debate. The issue is the definition of charity, which means different things to the giver and the receiver. I argue here that the giver was acting in self interest unable to see another perspective.

I managed 53 hours once over a weekend of a big LAN party, drove home and slept for 26 hours after that. Apparently my mother called the doctor who just said to check I was still breathing and that I'd probably wake up soon. I woke up

This is exactly it. The real issue is that even the couples who genuinely want to just walk away are sold the idea of financial justice.

Honestly I think this is a good thing. If I knew what I knew now, from my own relationship after being married for 20 years, and observation of friends, I would not have got married. People can drift apart. Situations change. Health problem

Not a bad idea. Kids are getting old now and I hadn't worked this out yet :) Back in 1985 I got a BBC Micro for Christmas. I turned it on. Beep Boop and I had BASIC in front of me. Anything that doesn't do that magic will get my f

This sounds like the experience my kids had when they got their XBox One last Christmas. It took literally 2 hours before we could play anything on it. Software is now "ship it quick and fix it later" and that's wrong.

This is literally never going to get better despite promises. It’s a filesystem limitation of NTFS. Small files cause MFT contention due to the architecture of NTFS. This has always been a problem. Check out a really big git or SVN repo on

Spot on all points there. Back in 98 the company I was working for was paying three salaries for EDA software licenses and $2-3k for a 48 hour turnaround on a couple of eurocards.
