I think you're misrepresenting (or misunderstanding) the matter. WhatsApp can be installed on any device. iMessage requires specific hardware, i.e. an Apple iPhone. It is always possible not to use either and just communicate by SMS

The reason "ordinateur" is used in French, is that IBM coined that word because "calculateur" (the regular modern French translation of "computer") sounded too mundane. "Ordinateur" suggests sorting,

No, it's an old French word for "to calculate/to count". Today the French word for that is "compter" (and a counting machine is a "compteur").

You don't need anything else than one leading zero to have a non-ambiguous year number. 01998 will stay unambiguous even in the year 019980, and in the year 0199800, etc.

Why nickel? I can't find an explanation on this page, maybe it's simply ease of manufacturing. Iron is the most stable element, but I suppose this is mostly irrelevant at the kind of scales we are talking about.

I think Anglo Canadians like to think they are polite, but I have no idea where that comes from. They're certainly not polite with French speakers in any case.

What the comment suggested is that the company deliberately created tools using their own API in a wrong way in order to write a blog post about it . If that's not an accusation of being malicious I don't know what could be.

To add a counterpoint, my Macbook Air from 2011 (model A1370 IIRC) running Linux is totally usable and I do use it as a daily driver (well, not daily but I use it on the days when I need a small laptop, which is several days a week). I su
