I am always proud to have TekSavvy as my ISP. It can be a pain getting a ticket requiring a tech to be sent out since they lease Roger's lines in my area, but it's a small price to pay for being the customer of someone that stands

Personally I much prefer OpenStack. Probably overkill for most though.

If you need crazy amounts of storage you are looking at enterprise SSDs which do not have this sort of problem, not consumer crap.

That is one of Reddit's corps, the largest and oldest. Well, I guess to be accurate, the corporation itself is Dreddit, they started TEST. The other big one being Brave Newbies.

Maybe look at Vyos? It is what I switched to after leaving pfSense. Linux based and cli only. Based on Debian, you can escape the router cli to get a plain Debian terminal and use apt to install whatever you want if you care to.

Just a homelabber, but in my 40+ drive homelab I've noticed the same. HDDs normally toss a couple SMART errors when dying. For SSDs I've gone through maybe 10 of them so far, and they just suddenly kick the bucket without warning.

Thanks for the link! I had not heard of the syndrome before. but it could be what my wife has been suffering from for the past year or two. We already are waiting to see a specialist to have a look at her, so I won't make any conclusio

I run a home ceph cluster as a hobby. It works really well. I have hit a few snags, but the mailing list is super friendly and helpful and the devs are quick to respond to bug reports.

You are correct about cephadm being the recommended install method. For NVMe OSDs how many daemons are using the same drive? Normally to get performance you have to colocate two or four osd daemons on a single NVMe device. Also ceph benefit

I lack a solution but would like to commiserate. We had some config errors on one of our VLANs, where DNS want reachable. The phones helpfully would just say no internet access and then bounce to 4g without any other sorry of error. What I

I do the same. What a sad state the web is such that it is completely worth it to spend a week or two building a whitelist just to make it palatable.

I have 5 Ceph nodes, 2 OpenStack nodes, 1 backup target, 3 switches, 1 pfsense router, 1 freeipa server and my desktop. The homelab is kept in the furnace room. It is almost completely on atom or xeon-d boards, so the power usage hard drive

I use Ceph in my homelab. Small cluster of five all-in-one noses with ten OSDs each. I went this way since it gives me a lot more expandability and fault tolerance than ZFS can. I use min_size 2, size 3. My use case is both CephFS and RBD f

I didn't know that. I could see that trend in the U.S., given how litigious people can be about medical treatments and alledged malpractice by everyone following consensus before research one can defend a treatment by saying it is curr

What is wrong with SSSD? Granted I have never used AD, but I have a domain set up with FreeIPA and it just works for the most part. The logs are pretty detailed when the rare issue comes up, and being kerberos based 80% of the time it'

In the OpenStack world you can use the old Fedora atomic and container Linux to automatically spin up k8s clusters using OpenStack heat and OpenStack magnum.

I believe DO uses Ceph for storage, much more scalable than a do-it-yourself zfs solution and a lot easier to manage.
