This is very common and I would even say a necessary part of using algorithmic social media now, basically awareness of the algorithm and interacting with content in a way that keeps your algorithm tuned to what you want. For example I avoi

The way people are talking about the name of the app feels very stupid to me, in a way I can't put my finger on. I guess it smacks of more Red Scare paranoia, trying to tie anything Chinese to scary, nefarious communists. I doubt that

The Panic of 1873 and the Long Depression seem to directly contradict you on that. The crashes were maybe not as large but that's because the economy of 1873 was an order of magnitude smaller than the economy of 1929.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me was with Outlook. They replaced the regular desktop Outlook app with "New Outlook", which is just a wrapper around Outlook.com, which is horrible and slow and buggy and even shows

Indeed, switching Windows PCs is like pulling teeth because of having to re-discover all of the little programs you had downloaded previously. I was a supporter of the "Windows Store" they added in Windows 8 and 10 for this reason

I'm done with Microsoft. Switched to Ubuntu last week after a long break from daily driving Linux desktop (not since about 2013) and not looking back. It's much better here.

My understanding is that it's meant to push the gold standard/anti-fiat currency, judging by the quote at the end of the website + link to Bitcoin whitepaper.

Great, so we have TikTok where we can access information that's being censored by the West, and Facebook to access information that's being censored by the East. What's the problem? Information wants to be free.

Sure, that design work and firmware development is probably a miniscule part of their business in comparison to the scale of their App Store and other service revenues though. And Apple does no manufacturing at all, the screens come from Sa

Google isn't entitled to invade my privacy, harvest my data and waste my time with ads. Installing an adblocker isn't an act of entitlement, it's an act of self-defense.

They don't need to engineer them, but for example BYD's vertical integration with batteries has been their superpower. Tesla once upon a time (~circa 2013) talked about building battery manufacturing "gigafactories" al

Why should I care that Microsoft Office has more users than LibreOffice? I care which is the better product and has my interests as the user, and not the product, in mind. For example, and relevant to the article, I can use an ad blocker on

All that Facebook money has gone to his head I guess. Thankfully we should still have the ability to fork the kernel if he fully loses the plot to corporate interests.

Graham was brilliant in the 90s. I would say this article is more like evidence that he's washed up. When you no longer have to work hard because your name alone means money, your mind turns soft.

I don't know, I agree that production value has jumped in the last decade but these trends are often cyclical. The overproduced boy bands of the 50s and early 60s gave way to aesthetically simple folk singers like Bob Dylan, and the sh
