I experimented with position-tracking on a Roomba 780 a couple of weeks ago. I found that its sensors were far too imprecise to get any sort of reliable position. I think the Roomba 980 might work, but it costs > 900 USD. tl;dr: maybe, b

With regards to hardware being the issue: The last I’ve heard was that debbugs is run on the fastest hardware the Debian project has available, i.e. one of the few machines with fast SSDs.

I dislike this article for the ad-hominem attack alone. It would have been just as easy to get the point across by dubbing it “the systemd-ization of GNU/Linux”. If the author really wished for more competent developers to spend their

Debian already is at that point. You can chose between sysvinit and systemd. You can also install openrc or upstart, but there’s very few packages which are being tested with these init systems, so expect to run into trouble. That said, I e

We actually considered that as an alternative in the beginning, i.e. use a bunch of usb2serial adapters on a 1U rack-mountable USB hub. We decided to go for serial ports because that ultimately is less clutter in the rack, i.e. the usb2seri

Thanks for the link. Before starting this project, we actually bought an old commercial serial terminal server, but ran into multiple issues with it. One of them was a hardware issue where the vendor suggested the only fix was to replace th

Commercial serial terminal servers (used to?) go for about a thousand bucks. Bottom line, I think it’s (barely) cheaper to build one yourself, but only if all the research & development (read: ordering multiple prototypes) is already do

You’re correct in that there is no tree structure in RobustIRC. All nodes talk directly to each other. Raft dictates a topology where the leader must be able to reach all followers directly, though.
