Yeah. It’s note-worthy that as foreigner, I can’t use Lyft at all currently, even when I’m in the states, as none of their payment methods work: they don’t accept credit cards outside the US/canada, they don’t accept Google Wallet if y

Out of curiosity, what is your reason for using wifi hotspots in today’s world? Personally, I don’t bother connecting to a wifi network anymore (except when I’m at home or at work) because the mobile network is just so fast and convenient.

I like rkt’s focus on deployment issues that Docker currently still has — as an example, rkt verifies signatures by default. As another example, rkt intends to work better with systemd/kubernetes, but AIUI that’s still on the roadmap a

Another interesting angle is that it’s not only application software we need to change, but also the hardware drivers are not quite there yet: I have a Dell UP2414Q (3840x2160 resolution, driven via DisplayPort 1.2) connected to a nVidia GT

With pgpool2 and two servers, I can have synchronous commits _as long as_ both servers are healthy, and still continue operating (with less durability) when only one server is healthy. Of course, it’s impossible to protect against data loss

After reading its README.rst, it seems to me like wal-e only cares about backing up (and restoring) WAL files, not about synchronuous replication like the original article.

Thanks for pointing this out. Seems like in the described setup (which does not use automatic failover) there really is no advantage then. I’ll make a note to look into replacing the pgpool setup with a standard master/standby solution

Excellent question. The way I understand it is that master/slave replication provides eventual consistency by shipping WAL logs to the other node once a WAL log is finalized. pgpool2 on the other hand provides statement-level consisten
