The California state budget is here, in pretty good detail: http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/budget/2020-21EN/#/BudgetDetail Reports here go back over 10 years, so there's plenty of data to analyze.

California does have high income tax, but property taxes are some of the lowest in the nation, and a recent attempt to reform those taxes failed. That leaves California 12th in state tax burden. https://wallethub.com/edu&#x

It was interesting to see the author specifically call out the joys of working in a University environment. It is a unique environment, and working with/for some of the smartest people in the world is a nice perk.

I think they also liked that the abbreviation could be RKEL, which is delightfully close to RHEL.

Yes, but there is no reputation system attached. Having a strict reputation/review system for both hosts and guests creates strong incentives on both sides for quality rentals and well-behaved guests. No one wants a bad review.

The underlying idea here is that the velocity of money has dropped significantly; each dollar is changing hands less often than usual, so you need more money in the system to facilitate the same amount of commerce.

This is also an important factor in why public-sector and government solutions cost so much more. They have to serve everybody, regardless of disability, the tech available, etc. etc. A company can just dis-regard the 20% of the market th

I think a lot of the question here is in the Administrator/Faculty divide. Is a special education teacher faculty? What about learning center, where students who need extra help in a specific subject go while the rest of the class co

I have two systems with 140 drives in a single ZFS pool. (14 VDEVS of 10 drives each). They work great, and we haven't had any issues with them.

by secabeen 6y ago
Yeah. The backing reason is that ZFS has an axiom that data, once written to disk, never changes. That includes moving data to a different location. Changing that either means a massive relocation table, or some other yet-to-be-coded too

It's the other way around. FB put a lot of investment into btrfs, but only for the features they needed. Single drive works great, because they needed that, but RAID-equivalents don't. On the flip-side, Sun->Oracle have spen

HP's Instant ink does solve this problem. They charge per-page, so you can automatically run self-cleaning every few days at zero cost to the consumer.

by secabeen 6y ago
HPs instant ink program lets you print full page prints in full color for the same price. Costco charges $2 each for 8x10 enlargements. Given that HPs base add-on rate is $0.10/pg, there are environments where that could make sense.

by secabeen 6y ago
Also, from HPs perspective, people buy a printer, use it, but then they use up the initial ink, and buy cheap knock-off ink. It's not as good, it gets clogged in the heads, or people don't want to waste ink running the cleaning, e
