After letting the anecdote percolate for a bit, none of it makes sense. The idea that the other person is getting more and more humiliated, as their losses go from 98 dollars to 99 to 99.50 doesn't really track.

Had to think about "homozygosity" for a bit. The science jargon makes my brain turn off. I thought the original title was translating, not editorializing (maybe clickbaity to leave out the [small] effect size).

(After looking at the prediction), 15 years feels very reasonable. Like, it's taking away the rest of the prime of his life, which is terrible, but there's still light at the end of the tunnel.

In an ideal lawful society, a disagreement over gas won't escalate into a violent confrontation. So the attendent can intervene, because they aren't in physical danger.

I think the definition given in the article is pretty squarely accurate. The fundamental "problem" of consciousness is that systems are deterministic (and/or random), so where is that special spark? Surely a machine can'

Only if you're a hoarder, or it's career-related and you're meticulous. I find that if I start saving stuff, the drive to collect starts outweighing the value of the collection rapidly. AI search would be the only reason to.

Superego is what you are supposed to do, id is what you want, and ego is where they meet in the middle. If you are identifying with the superego, maybe you are in a situation where you more "have to"s than "want to"s?
