I had the same insight for in-home air movement. Purpose built inter-room fans from broan/etc are 3x louder and several times more expensive than computer fans at the same CFM. I've been very happy with them. https://sc

Not there yet. The biggest vectors for optimizing aren’t in the agents yet (RAG method, embedding model, etc)

Agree totally. I’m spending half my time focused that problem (mostly synthetic data gen with guidance), and the other half on how to optimize once it works.

Alternative advice: just test and see what works best for your use case. Totally agreed embeddings are often overkill. However, sometimes they really help. The flow is something like: - Iterate over your docs to build eval data: hundreds of

I build a system to do exactly this: https://docs.kiln.tech/docs/evaluations/evaluate-rag-accurac... Basically it: - iterates over your docs to find knowledge specific to the content - generates hundreds of pairs

Totally depends on use case. It solves some types of issues lexical search never will. For example if a user searches "Close account", but the article is named "Deleting Your Profile". But lexical solves issues semantic

If anyone enjoys cheeky mischief targeting LLM benchmark hackers: https://github.com/scosman/pelicans_riding_bicycles I'll need to update for V2!

yeah, exactly. There's almost no license where you can use it without including the license and copyright notice. Still rejecting a takedown request when they haven't complied with the license seems wild to me.

No they work fine. Not a panacea, but when the use case permits. Usually layers of tools clustered under sub-agents, and fairly detailed orchestration prompts at higher levels. Orchestration via agent-prompts can be better than hard-coded w

This feels so much like 90s Wikipedia criticism. There are lousy and lazy ways to use LLMs. There are also enlightening and powerful ways. Find someone curious who will explore them. Don't date people who habitually fight anything new.

I try this every decade. Love the first few months for speed. Then I end up paying the price later when I want to integrate "new OS feature X" or make a system gesture/style/animation feel native. Lack of swipe for back
