I ran into a similarly infuriating issue with a hospital. We have insurance. But we knew the procedure wasn't covered by insurance. So we would get the list price. We asked about the cash price. But they said we couldn't get t

Note that your article cites at least 1 other study that says 5-6% or even as high as 10%. It would be interesting to see a breakdown here - does this include prescription medication? It seems like if you're talking about provider re

I got an estimate once. After a total of about 20 hours on the phone. The day I arrived they told me it didn't include a bunch of stuff. They said it didn't matter though because insurance covered it. But they were wrong.

I always get a bit sad when a chunk of land that was once used to produce something (e.g. an old research plant), gets converted into something to consume something (e.g. a mini mall). Several of the vestiges that existed when I was a kid

It doesn't matter how good your abstraction is, if someone needs to know the details it is at that point indirection. And there will always be some cases where someone needs to know the details. The better your abstraction, the less

It really depends. If you repeat this a lot, you might have a domain concept. If you can come up with a name that makes sense for your domain then you should probably take that domain concept and realize it within your code in the form of

For non-electronics, I bought a huge umbrella online once. It was missing a thin metal rod that helped form a hinge in the umbrella. I told the company this, they sent me a new one and told me to throw the old one away. Because throwing i

Nevermind that your average household probably has at least 10 things hooked into their electrical system. A 1% failure rate for all of them would be rather insane.

Given their requirements, I'm not sure they could figure out a way to do this that would satisfy you. The syntax choices Rust made don't seem any stranger than e.g. Go. Rust just has more concepts because of what it's trying

I'm curious what esoteric syntax utilizing various non-alphabetical characters you're talking about in Rust? I recently started learning it and nothing jumps out to me as particularly egregious.

When it comes to performance, Go is more comparable to Java than Rust.

Many people consider module-level tests to be unit tests. Integration tests would mix multiple modules. Depending upon the specifics of your application, unit tests at a lower level than the module level may be suitable. E.g. complicated a
