The Zen 2 16 core chip is 105 watt TDP. The chips its wiping the floor with are 165 TDP. TDP doesn't necessarily correlate with real world usage, but benchmarks show that AMD is much better at their chips running closer to TDP than I

Have an input element that can't be seen. If it has something in it, ignore the submit. Works for all my sites so far.

I wish workspaces had shortcuts like alt-tab and superkey-<number> only look at your current workspace. If I'm on workspace 2, and my superkey-1 corresponds to an application that is only open on workspace 1, i don't want

Not sure how much overall effect it will have, but Windows also recently released an update to perform better with Zen, and these benchmarks don't include that update. I'm not sure what the story was with CPU vulnerability mitiga

Note that there was an article a while ago that claimed that assembling the iPhone in the USA would cost an extra $30-40, and that was mostly due to logistics. So I would guess the extra cost would be less than that. You probably aren'

It's not clear to me if the whole database was downloaded and leaked or just part of it. Anyone know?

My 8th grade science teacher taught us how to solder. And how to count in binary using our fingers. He was pretty awesome in a lot of ways.

I have a giant dev file (well, 2 really: 1 for personal, 1 for work) that I use as a scratchpad. Anything I work on goes there. Makes it easy to find things. Monthly I pull out useful things into notes about that topic. Run into a weird

Some use IRC, some use discord. A friend wrote a bot so people in our IRC chat can communicate with people in our discord chat (and vice versa).

A custom net zero home, which is what you've linked here, sounds pretty damn expensive. Unless money is no object, you're probably better off slapping some extra solar panels on your existing McMansion.

I don't trust random third party extension makers either. That's why I don't go around randomly installing extensions.

Depends a lot on where they're working. I know more than one person that had 15+ years experience that was making around 100k/year, then moved to a FAANG and hit > 500k total compensation in just a 2-3 years.

Because companies don't have to prove something is safe, you have to prove something unsafe. Reminds me of the BPA free garbage. Many of the replacements are/were worse than BPA. But no one seemed to care.

Note that you can also use Backblaze's B2 cloud storage with Restic. It's pretty cheap and was easy for me to configure.

There's plenty of similarly priced alternatives out there that aren't as abusive as the big ad companies. The problem isn't just that poor people are money poor. It's that they're also time poor. They're too

Dumpsters are relatively cheap. When we remodelled our house we got a 7 foot tall, 6 foot wide, 21 foot long dumpster for 2 weeks for just $370. You can fit a lot of junk in there.

I can't find the link but a youtuber tested various AOIs and air coolers and a Noctua air cooler did the best job cooling. Unless you like AOIs for some other reason (e.g. some people don't like all the space air coolers take),

Yep. I switched from a Macbook Pro and I definitely miss the touch pad. But I don't miss the keyboard. Or the touchbar. Or the hotkey layout. Or the operating system. Or not being able to upgrade my hard drive when I needed to.
