I agree. While I wasn't happy with the outcome, I do respect it and would not do anything to actively work around it. Just pulled the feature and moved on with the app. The fact that they took the time to explain and justify the reject

Someone from Apple got on the phone with me to explain a rejection. I was disappointed with the outcome but very surprised at how they were willing to talk about it and explain why.

I'd probably use "live updates" as well when casually talking about a feature. I think I'd use "real-time" when describing the system as a whole.

Here's material from Carnegie Mellon going over different real-time systems https://users.ece.cmu.edu/~koopman/des_s99/real_time/ This page classifies a broad definition for real-time and then breaks int

My point is that when you say real-time in the web world, you can assume "soft real-time" because of the context. You would use specific language like "hard real-time" if it was so. Saying context doesn't matter is

I agree that this is soft real-time but think that the usage is pretty clear in the web world. I'm not sure it's a bad thing that is taken on a different meaning in a different context. I view real-time as "the clients reflec

Oh no, I totally have the same question. I just wanted to make it clear that GCP was in the running since that was in your comment. But yea, I don't get it either. I'd be curious to know why.

Should Disney be more fiscally responsible so they can pay their employees during hard times? I agree with your comment if it's a small business that struggles to make ends meet, but this is Disney. I do expect better from them.

I agree with you. I could see justification in the fact that this integrated, by default, into every iOS device in the world is a bigger reach than the Android/API markets they have.

Actions like https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/17/tesla-keeps-fremont-factory-... are not a good view. It is worth noting that this plant will close on March 23 after the backlash, but probably only because of the

This is either a straw man argument, or I disagree that there should be long term unemployment here. Govt programs and laws will probably be needed to provide that safety net. I'm not saying that death rate and unemployment are unrel

Those are the questions we need to figure out as a country or even as a world. Realistically, the govt needs to provide that safety net for its citizens. However, let's start with the decision that lives are more important than money.

Lives and money are not the same thing. Hard stop. I understand your point, but I just disagree with the expected outcomes here. Realistically how much would it cost to bail out these businesses and provide a safety net to people? I imagine

My coworker showed me that hooks are just functions, so you can still pull apart your functional components hooks into a bunch of imported or defined functions. Of course that doesn't help if you're still pulling in a lot of hooks

I feel that hooks make it easy to go from functional component (simplest way to get started) to stateful component without "rewriting" it to the class. It's easy to do that rewrite, but painful when you have to do it back and
