Jitter is what really kills it. I found out that my ISP (who own switches in the basement) limits bandwidth based on a rolling time window, so whenever someone in the house starts a download they can briefly saturate the entire link. Wish t

I tried Shadow and, well, you could really tell they host in a budget datacenter with how often there was stutter or missing keyframes (they host with OVH in Europe). I never had such issues with GeForce Now. Also, I found it kind of scummy

Bandwidth isn't that important with game streaming after ~40-70 Mbps, latency and jitter (essentially latency consistency) is.

I'm assuming this is for the blue keys? Those go for ~30 EUR where I live. It's sad to see an innovation driver like Cloudflare be incompatible with my conscience, but to then see another product that just raised retail prices be

Hetzner/OVH are HN darlings not because of how innovative they are in features, but in pricing. They tend to show up as submissions mostly when something bad happens (e.g. price increase), but they still show up in comments a lot when

I've had this happen in the real world. In this case it was a GraphQL implementation that gradually grew in size, complexity and scope. The team maintaining it never adjusted the initial resource requirements within about 2 years becau

Please. I was strictly speaking about the worst case outcome. You know, game theory. And also, we're not talking about "a little more power".

If you want to self-host, Keycloak. You can then either find OIDC/SAML integrations for your systems or use something like Pomerium to add authentication via a proxy. Just remember that properly upgrading Keycloak without downtime is n

Very nit-picky. I didn't say DLC itself was bad, but the scale at which TF2 and Portal 2 had these elements was rather unprecedented (having bundles going into the hundreds of dollars). Also, sure, you can't withdraw from a Steam

"Felt" is really the right word for this, because almost every bad practice in the industry was pioneered by Valve, particularly in TF2. They're just really good at inducing reciprocity. Large scale Microtransactions (TF2). C

This post should be replaced with an archive link; for one because the availability of KF isn't particularly great and for another because funneling people to a doxing website with Referrer and IP intact is a bit dangerous.
