I see this comment about how awesome Apple Trackpads are all the time here, and just assumed I was missing out because I'd never used a MacBook. But I got given a MacBook Pro recently for work, and I'm super underwhelmed. The trac

Dani, whom the article mentions, has also worked on prosthetic arm replacements which are indeed modelled on tentacles. I don't have a link to hand but I'm sure some use of your favourite search engine would show this for you.

My last job was at a UK bank. All our *nix systems were configured with a specific whitelist of commands that could be run via sudo. We found this an enormous pain in the arse when the powers that be decided to deploy ansible everywhere,

Is there an arm64 version of the docker image for the atuin server? I'd really like to be able to deploy this to my microk8s cluster.

Oh I don't know. I'm going to send this to a friend of mine who's an ex black cab driver. If he doesn't get full marks I'll be amazed.

Snagit got me into trouble twice at my last job, by phoning home even when I'd ticked off the preference for sending usage information (which appears you have to opt out of, rather than opt in to, which is a dark pattern in my book any

There's so many people in here saying "did you try it?" - and I signed up on the waiting list the day it was announced and still don't have access.

Huh. I've chatted to Dani several times (we go to the same bar and share a circle of friends). She is hella smart. Sadly she's yet to have had the third thumb with her whenever we've met, but I know a bunch of our mutual frie

Still no Thunderbolt though? Unless I've missed it somewhere in the article. My wife was sent a Surface Pro (3, I think) to WFH on, and getting it to play nicely with external displays was very hit and miss. Finally found a DisplayPort

Same in the UK. The Google Pay app on my phone allows me to add credit cards and use them for NFC payments and that's about it. I can't see a way to send money to someone else using it either.

There have been a number of attempts at this over the years with Rockbox (not sure about recent years though as I no longer hang out in the dev channel on freenode). All of them came to naught eventually though.

Heh - I helped out on the port to 80GB video which came with a rather odd ATA controller on it that didn't work with the first cut of the ATA driver that Rockbox had been shipping with before the 80GB model came along. Fun times. Still

I am rooting for Windows Terminal to succeed, but currently it's definitely not fast. Complete redraws of the content are in fact painfully slow for me at the moment.

Interesting. I thought the stuff people generally wrote on blackboards with was actually gypsum, and not chalk at all. Although everyone calls it chalk.

I find most of the things you list add no value to me. Photos and reviews are of no interest to me in a navigation aid. In my home town at least (London), I frequently find their places data wrong with marked locations being several streets

Not entirely true. I was on a night out years ago for a friend's birthday, who, for whatever reason had chosen to have it at the Casino under the Empire cinema on Leicester square. The cashpoint there only gave out £50 notes. This
