I think one major issue here is with the "server" terminology in MCP. It honestly just seems like the wrong word for what these things are, to me.

I guess my thing with LinkedIn is that there's just no reason to use the feed. It's still a place to connect with people I've worked with and keep up with what they've been doing. It's incredibly useful for that. I

Loved stumbleupon! I think when I realized that I was no longer stumbling upon anything interesting was the leading indicator of the long downhill trend of interesting content on the web.

No, the alternative I suggest is "can't agents figure out how to use existing kinds of APIs if they are documented well?". I think the answer is that in the current state of the art, it's very useful to give them a nudge

My contention is that if you went back and did a sentiment analysis of the early to mid hype cycle conversations around the things in your list and compared them with the things in my list, there would be very little difference between the

I guess I have a different view on this... I feel like you left out that the past 20 years has also seen enormous success in this industry, even to a historically unprecedented degree. You listed a number of things that have been super hype

Yeah the problem is that as soon as you're doing something that is bigger than like 8 people, it just doesn't really work anymore. Now people sitting in the room with you must coordinate with people sitting outside the room, and s

On the "bobby tables" thing, my point is basically that all the same rules for API services still applies. You still have to sanitize sql and all the other stuff we've already been doing for decades. > How do I put it beh

At that point, what is the benefit of MCP over just what we've been doing for decades of putting services behind network-accessible APIs?

Yeah it strikes me that if you want to provide MCP tools as a hosted service, the way to do that is to put them behind a web API. I'm a little surprised there is so much hype for MCP rather than just "put your tools behind a web s

I don't have an induction stove so I'm honestly not sure, but I have seen people say that the cookware thing is overblown because a lot of what people already have will work with induction. But I dunno, you totally might be right

Just one note because I don't think there is wide awareness of this: there are two kinds of electric stoves, and the induction kind is generally faster than gas.

Did you miss the "other side of the country" part? Even if not, there's only so much time kids can spend at playgrounds. And sometimes it's cold outside. Just in general, it's good when kids have more options for so

Scala is a lot more like lisp in this way (or actually, the C++ comparison is the much better one) than it is like go. There are lots of ways to write Scala, to its detriment. This isn't meant as a knock on Scala! It's a great lan

Yeah I think Kotlin is quite close to the OP's description. But it is perhaps more focused on object orientation than they would like, and also only runs on the JVM. But if I were to create a self-contained (that is, non-JVM) "Rus

Yeah I was being tongue in cheek. (Or just overly dismissive I guess.) I know people do care about licensing, but it's also plausible that it isn't what any given project is most focused on.
