I remember doing similar things over 20 years ago with games that had poor customization. Open up the binaries, search for strings, and replace strings with custom text (e.g. character names etc). I learned quickly that I had to keep the st

Same here, my best investment last year was upgrading from a 2017 i7 laptop (with no GPU), to a 2022 desktop with a GeForce RTX 3080 GPU and my productivity difference is like night and day, wish I had upgraded sooner.

Yeah having street car power lines can be a nightmare in densely crowded cities with a lot of pedestrian traffic and tightly packed buildings. It would be a nightmare to implement in a place like New York City, and I'm not surprised th

I've always wondered about the history of eating raw meat. My family personally doesn't eat anything raw because of the news reports we've read of people getting sick (or worse) after consuming raw meat, and we make sure to o

If you're looking for a raw "benchmark" style program to measure performance of your CPU and GPU for 3D tasks, I highly recommend the open-source Blender Benchmark https://opendata.blender.org/ . It also has

Just FYI, it also needs 200+ GB hard disk space to install, I believe minimum GPU recommendation is Nvidia 2080 (or equivalent) with 4-6 GB GPU VRAM. I've seen posts online where they recommend higher-end chips and much more GPU memory

While this maybe true for FAANG and other tech giants, it is unfortunately still a lot of money for most startups that are working their way to IPO. Tbh even at tech giants that make tens of billions of dollars, a $100 million investment is

This sounds about right. What I remember reading is that people pay Google Ads to serve their ads to people for around $10 CPM (cost per mille), so that is $10 per 1000 impressions. And if Google Adsense pays you 50%, you end up with $5 RPM

I wonder if Nvidia is cranking up the performance not for games, but other applications such as 3D rendering and AI/ML. If you look at the benchmarks for Blender [1], a popular open-source 3D software, you will see the 4090 easily beat
