Tesla Model Y now best selling car in all of Europe
- jdmoreira 4y agoHumm. I just googled the price for this. It's about 60K usd for the base model... How can a car this expensive be the best selling car in Europe? I'm completely baffled. EDIT: I live in Sweden and I know my percentile of income compared to the whole country.
- europeanguy 4y agoI too am extremely skeptical.
- cypress66 4y agoLower cost cars sales are split into many brands and models.
- cbeach 4y agoA lot of people buy cars on finance deals in Europe. More than 90% of new car buyers pay on finance in the U.K. https://uk.motor1.com/news/353737/91-percent-cars-financed-year/ https://uk.motor1.com/news/353737/91-percent-cars-financed-y... Personally I think it’s absurd to get into debt to buy a depreciating asset, where you end up paying more than the value of the car. But seems I’m one of the dying generation of “save up and buy it outright” types.
- malshe 4y agoThe most upvoted comments on this article is below. Looks like Europe did not receive any Tesla shipments in October so the November figures are inflated. At least that's my reading to his comment. I appreciate you always, Fred, but this is like one of those 2016 articles on Cleantechnica, Electrek, or a low quality stock forum. They would get markets where Tesla has irregular imports from another country, and during the months they got a delivery, Tesla would be the “number one seller.” In this case, the article points out Europe didn’t receive shipments in October. So November had its normal demand, plus it had all of the backlog deliveries from October. A normal automaker has much more steady deliveries. Nothing wrong with Tesla’s approach imo, but imagine if BMW stopped 3 series deliveries for a month and then resumed sales the following month plus delivered their backlog. The headline would be that BMW sales doubled! True, but not really…
- pifm_guy 4y agoI wonder how many buyers were persuaded by the branding and reputation of Tesla and Musk? Now that that reputation and 'cool factor' seems to have been shattered, I wonder what the market share will look like in Jan/Feb...
- cbeach 4y agoI’m more inclined to buy Tesla since Elon took a principled stand for free speech. There are others like me, but they’re afraid to speak up because hating Elon is the current groupthink and to challenge it means being downvoted to oblivion. The current hate towards Musk and Tesla across MSM and social media feels orchestrated to me. I can think of some people who might be putting money into amplifying this phenomenon. Bill Gates, for example, with his $500M short position on Tesla stock, and who has spent at least $319 manipulating MSM outlets. https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/04/23/elon-musk-tweets-that-he-confronted-bill-gates-about-shorting-tesla.html https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/04/23/elon-musk-tweets-that-he... https://kevinbeck.substack.com/p/bill-gates-has-spent-at-least-319 https://kevinbeck.substack.com/p/bill-gates-has-spent-at-lea...
- fabbari 4y agoThis is basically counting two months of deliveries, it's at number 22 from the beginning of the year - and sold (in two months) 388 more than a Dacia sold in a month. A bit of context from [1]: Over in the models ranking, the Tesla Model Y (+256.7%) scores its second ever win after last September, but its direct follower the Dacia Sandero (+15.5%) is only 388 sales below. The Model Y is now #22 year-to-date. The Toyota Yaris (+166.6%) and Fiat 500 (+38.6%) are both up one spot on October to #3 and #4 respectably while the YTD leader, the Peugeot 208 (-4%) is down four ranks to #5. The VW Golf (+120.7%) and Tiguan (+125.2%) both recover from year-ago volumes hampered by the microchip crisis while the Toyota Yaris Cross (+59.4%) scores its 2nd ever European Top 10 finish after last January at #9.
