Well. You got me. I'm a big corporate shill for GoDaddy. I've been sent here to turn popular opinion back in their favour. Good going, detective, now that you've outed me, I'll lose my job, and who will feed all of my 58 children? Seriously

Devil's advocate here: The idea that godaddy appears to be intentionally stalling transfers is pure speculation. Not saying that they're incapable of doing it, but that whole "don't attribute to malice" thing. Let's not turn this into anoth

You should try locking the tables first. Maybe other people connecting is slowing it down, so a full table lock would be a good idea. Remember to keep the lock alive after the query finishes, just in case you need to query it again...

Most commonly I get: "So could you build me this iphone app? I have a really great idea!" followed by a partial thought and no research into the market. But then, I guess everyone here probably gets that.

I think that, rather than removing software patents altogether, there has to be a rethink of what is 'patentable' (Finger movements? Probably not patentable. An entirely new protocol for transferring data? I'm fine with that being patented.

Daily pickup could also lead to people throwing out more stuff because they don't have to ration their bin space. Where I'm living in the UK, there's four bins: Plastics, glass, cans (collected once a month); Paper, cardboard, etc. (collect

My old one simply had an "exclusions" clause where developers could register things that fell outside the 'IP agreement' terms. It wasn't perfect, but that type of thing is a good idea. Technically, if you're consulting, then any code you p

I would explain to your boss (together or individually) that you're planning on moving on, but that you don't want to see his company go belly-up in the process. Set out a hard timeline (2-3 months, depending on how long it would take to tr

You say Cairns, but perhaps do you mean Atherton, or Tolga? Because that's where I grew up, and your name is awfully familiar.

Yeah, Brisbane is suffering from too many people, not enough companies. We're not as out-of-the-way as say, Adelaide, but there's really nothing there to draw companies. Oh well, maybe if enough disgruntled workers get fed up enough, they'l

It probably depends on where you are. In Brisbane, there seemed to me to be a noticeable lack of decent IT jobs going. There were a few out there, but most of them were either "Big Co./Government", or small dev shops which had a very high t

Well... I'm starting to think that I may be slightly obsessed with this game. This is the second version I've made of it in as many weeks. Really, though, it's a nice/easy way to test out some interesting ideas (in this case making a real-t

I've spent a lot of time working in PHP. I largely enjoyed my time, because it provides a (mostly) easy-to-deploy, fast-to-develop platform for web development. What it also provides is a maintenance nightmare. It promotes sloppy coding, an

I've worked at a hosting company before, and yes, it sucks when your site goes down. They know that, and it reflects badly on them if your site is down. It's quite possible that there's a problem which isn't just an easy fix. Once, the data

Another friend has been bugging me to make a slider/some other control for the rules. It may happen. It'll probably be behind a level/position editor, though.

Turns out I had a minor bug in my logic. Fixed it, and returned to the original rules: 1, 5, 8. It tends to either die out quickly, or bloom and take up most of the grid. It also runs a lot slower now.

I had spoken to someone else who had added "time" as a third dimension (and I suppose that that's pretty much what you've done there, too). I have, in my head, some interesting shapes that I think might react well given the rules I have. I

Yeah, the rules don't scale as well as I would have liked. I started with scaled rules based on the original rules: Loneliness: sqrt(1)^3 = 1 Breed: sqrt(3)^3 = 5.196152423 = 5 Overcrowd: sqrt(4)^3 = 8 That didn't work out so well, so with
