I was always shocked by McMaster-Carr's delivery speed. I felt like the parts would arrive as quickly as I could have conceivably picked them up. This was 10 years ago now, so sort of like Amazon Prime before it became ubiquitous, but

Are members of the primitive community living in villages, solo, or small groups? Do they follow hunting laws (tags and license)? Do they live on public or private land, if public do they try to grow crops?

This is quite impressive, although inconclusive... Apple Pay currently accounts for 5% of credit card payments (from article), but, more importantly, this does not include non-card transactions like WeChat! Still, I think that Apples deep e

I believe Buildium's subscribers are the landlords, but, for a fee, they have a portal that renters can use. There is no subscription, but as the author acknowledges, these rent payments were considered as regular and recurring by some

I don't know much about tunneling speeds, but this seems much faster than Big Bertha in Seattle although for a much smaller volume (the tunnel is narrower) and (I'm assuming) less complex location. Big Bertha - 3.5 years, ~1.75 mi

This is a scary comment for me. I'm partially commenting to remember it. I do exercise, but I avoid exercise while uncomfortable from back pain. Clearly, if I keep not exercising, I'll eventually only get worse...

They mention it in the article, but it's really fascinating how we've documented previous nearby (relatively) supernovae. Modern scientists have identified that the Crab Nebula (6k light years away) was created by a supernovae. Hi

Everyone I have worked with from the Midori team has been very impressive. Regardless of the direct success of the project, I believe it (to some extent) improved the quality of Microsoft's engineering culture.

After posting I was curious so I looked around for data on who fractures a hip. All I found was data from one UK Hospital saying around 10% of broken hips are from people younger than 65. If that extrapolates out, then you may be right. Bec

Just to tune your smell test, my suspicion is that the vast majority of people over 65 that break their hip are somewhere on the frailty scale from this article. Healthy people are very unlikely to trip and break their hip.

It basically means "hold cash", so visa, stripe, insurance companies etc. all get cash from customers, hold it for a period of time, and distribute it to customers. Holding it for a period of time is "generating float."

Wow. Can you share more about this? Is it due to names being stratified by income/background? Without knowing more, this seems both easy to cheat and biased towards... people with father's with certain names?

My impression is that at a large company it's easier to cut in broad strokes and then hire for specific roles. Many companies, certainly Uber as well, do smaller force reductions where the employees have ~60 days to find an internal ro
