But they could absolutely move to a system where the vast majority of filers could attest that the numbers IRS already has are all the income they have and be done with their returns. Then only the subset that has other income or adjustment

Chinese COMAC seems to be on the verge of selling meaningful numbers to chinese airlines. Wont be surprised if they are a very viable competitor in ~20 years which isn’t much in the aviation world where backlogs span a decade
