This is the question I always ask: do you want to be an entrepreneur or do you want to work for yourself? Being an entrepreneur is about being so passionate about a product or service that you, and only you, can produce that you're willing

That's actually a pretty wonderful e-book. I would change "credit card processor" to "payment gateway" in the subhed on page 14 to match the language throughout the rest of the book. Also, why no love for PayPal's Payflow Pro as a small b

There's actually an element that's way overlooked: peace of mind. Let's say AWS goes down. 1) You can't do anything about it, so while you're upset, you're not losing sleep driving to your colo and back at 3am. 2) Many, many other compan

If the studios are smart, it's Blu-ray. If they're not, it's streaming. BUT I'm willing to take the long bet and say DVDs last longer than two years, regardless. If you are willing to take the other side, let's make a bet.

The issue is the costs, as always. Are they fully loading their salary and overhead costs? Of course, I have crazy love for niche online marketplaces like this, so I congratulate them for seeing the competition and doing it anyway.

If anyone knows a way to take the over on this, please let me know. Even if the claim is that DVD rental revenue will be streaming revenue just for Netflix, and it's not a general industry claim, I'm still taking the over. I can buy claim

These organizations thrive in those geographic areas where you don't have a critical mass of angel investors amongst whom you can syndicate a deal. It's really quite that simple. Here in Chicago, DePaul University puts on an annual event t

Wait, WTF? Isn't getting bitten by SuperTick exactly the sort of low probability, high cost event insurance is for? Just because something is chronic doesn't make it low cost.

I think you misunderstood me - I'm not talking about policy/legislative changes. I'm talking about having their office fight, as your wife does, with the insurance companies on your behalf. This is what "constituent services" does .

I have never, ever, heard of a law firm turning down a new client. Now, WSGR can decline to defer expenses at their discretion, but surely anyone can engage WSGR to do the basic incorporation work for a reasonable fee.

Technically, that depends on the individual judge's ruling, but either way, the relevant result - the ability to re-sell DLC - remains. Which (in my opinion) is a good thing (if we can get there).

I totally disagree - Palm's biggest hit in years was the Centro. The Pixi is the replacement for that. All the stuff with their App Catalog and the Pre were just training wheels for the real mass-market product: the Pixi. Remember, the fi

That's the beauty of EULAs in the US: if there's a clause in there that's unconscionable or illegal, even if you agree, it's not enforceable. We already have a well-established first sale doctrine in the States. I could see - but I wouldn

Honestly, this makes no sense. It doesn't matter how famous you are - if your product sucks, people won't use it. Look at Ashton Kutcher's Blah Girls. It's a miserable failure - even though he's much, much, much more famous than a mere K

The important point of Dave's screed is at the bottom (and it's something every single person who has ever worked in VC and made the jump to the light side says this): for your first company, don't hold on too long - it's OK to sell out. Su
