I think you're right. Though I wouldn't hedge any money on them improving Picasa, directly anyway. This is more about enriching the Android platform. There are a lot of photographers that walk with a netbook and use that for editing within

Except Hitachi couldn't have still put out PCs with Microsoft on them. Acer would still be able to put out Android devices.

In the same way that CyanogenMod does? Around the time of Jellybean's launch, Google released the PDK which made it easier and less intrusive to overlay the Android source code. As a result alpha builds of CyanogenMod 10 were in the wild be

The problem is that Aliyun doesn't simply fork Android and run it's own App Store (as Amazon). It instead tries to rewrite bits, use some bits and create a Frankenstein type monster. Again, that's no real issue. However the real issue is th

Maybe, but the question remains, is it viable now? Is Firefox OS viable now? The answer to both is an emphatic no. However it's felt more in regards to Mozilla as they don't have the resources to build Firefox OS and maintain Firefox along

Chrome OS's only real milestone at this point is the fact that a few OEMs decided to give it a go. It's certainly not eating away at any market-share.

I'm surprised at the sheer number of people that have struggled to grasp the difference between an open Android and a closed OHA. Amazon aren't in the OHA and as such are able to do what they want, Acer had the option of leaving the OHA and

And there we have it. What I find super interesting is despite this setback for Facebook and the failure of ChromeOS, Mozilla will still push on with Firefox OS (B2G) when the resources are much needed elsewhere. Oh well...

Not a bad idea. What I'd really like is an app that tells me when Amazon book prices on my wishlist drop so as that I can try and purchase them all at their cheapest.

BrowserID is horribly complicated. Even to log into Mozilla's own Web Apps store. I had to remember my browser id, wait, enter it again and then enter a password. Why are there more steps to something so simple. It's for these reasons that

I actually wrote an article about WinAMP and where it's failing a little while back: http://s00techified.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/soo-what-happen... WinAMP like so many projects ultimately needs a steroid shot. It was never supposed to be

Ads are a part of life. If you don't wanna see em, you like many others install adblock. For the people that don't, they create revenue. As for installing every colour, flower, car. That's fine and dandy but stuff like that would be flagged

Exactly, if you can't attract casual developers, then you can't attract consumers. Look at the hit that is Angry Birds, there's still no Blackberry version and that's gone from casual startup to monolith of a gaming company.

To be fair, with Tumblr there was just no forward thinking plan. The first thing they should've done was consolidated content. Thus if someone uploads a picture that's already on the server, it should automatically become a reblog. This wou

I generally agree with what you say. I'm yet to be won over by the browser as an OS idea, whether from Google or Mozilla and also while Web App might be the future, they're far from the now. That said, Mozilla seems to be really be behind B

I really didn't know that ARS partook in smear campaigns like this. This is so utterly one sided that it's disappointing. Simple fact of the matter is, copyright holders could use an abuse tool to remove content and had said content removed

Yeah but if they done that, they'd lose. The MU laywers would simply prove that the site adheres to DMCA take-down requests and thus do everything they're required to do by law.

This is ridiculous. What is the point of DMCA if you arrest sites that comply with DMCA requests? The onus is on the copyright holder to find infringing content and report it. The concept is a simple one. "No one is coming to see my movie b

It's a Murdoch paper, what else did you expect? Off Topic: Whenever I read WSJ I always think of Weekly Shounen Jump and then I'm like that makes no sense, this has to be about the Wall Street Journal. It's never about Manga.

No, it's a micro-blogging platform. Traditional blog posts are something that have been shoehorned in to try and garner new audiences. Tumblr is never the right choice for an existing publication. That's why many fashion magazines have Tumb

And there you've highlighted the issue with Google+. For some reason, people are so determined to see it work that they attempt to shoehorn it to be something that it isn't. Google+ isn't a blogging platform and shouldn't be treated as such

Have you seen what they've done to Tweetdeck? They've dumbed it down and made it incredibly difficult for PUs. I suspect we'll finally see an open source alternative pop up.
