Seems like a pretty standard interview panel to me - if you want the job do it, otherwise don't?

I think the comparison is unfair to cigarettes, which at least provide some fleeting pleasure and look cool while you're smoking them.

Platforms based on automated curation thriving while platforms based on manual curation wither. If Facebook gave people the opportunity to turn off the algorithmic feed, and they took it... they'd just spend all their time on TikTok i

I mean 6% of GDP is a lot, obviously, but it's also just as obviously a cost that can be paid. The important questions are: - Is it more expensive than simply reducing emissions? - Is it easier (politically or economically) to deploy?

You can say that explicit curation and intention is the way things "should be" as much as you like, but all the evidence suggests that most people strongly prefer automated curation.

For most queries, on most sites, searching sitename + query in google will give you better results than using the site's native search. Nobody is going to waste their time learning what the exceptions are.

In general, leaking a company's secrets is going to be a civil matter, and to the extent that it's a criminal case a prosecutor would be very unlikely to press charges if the company isn't asking them to. On the other hand l

I can only speculate, but my guess is they reasoned that all-day battery life would make MagSafe obsolete.

The example given in the article seems very off-base: the author is vaguely planning to purchase some type of planner, and he gets an ad for a specific planner from a specific retailer. There has to be a pretty tiny chance that he would ha

How do you send money via ACH? I've never figured out a way to do it. Unless you're talking about the common "link an account" functionality where you do trial deposits, etc...

There's no way to do peer to peer direct bank transfers in the US. Also, in the US, credit card providers accept all liability for fraud, as a consumer there's no way you will ever lose money to credit card fraud.

How is a branch nicer than a subdirectory? Off the top of my head, it seems like backporting bugfixes might be easier using a branch (if you're lucky, you can just cherrypick the commit and it will work) - any other reasons?

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with any of that stuff - this is just a building with a very large footprint that was vacant, pretty much a unique opportunity in Manhattan.

Shitty jobs will have to get better, probably. This may mean that areas of the economy that depended on cheap mistreated labor shrink (eg the price of berries will go up), but that would be a good thing, morally.

Right now most of my messaging is on SMS/MMS, so if RCS makes it less terrible, that would be exciting. Obviously if you have to check to see if somebody is on it that's a nonstarter but I assume it'll fall back to SMS/
