It depends on the bar and the crowd; hanging out around NYU or Columbia is much different than hanging out around Wall Street or the Upper East Side. NYC doesn't have the same kind of start up culture that the Valley has, but there are plen

That's an easy problem to solve. The people with the trading algorithms can just learn to program. No worries about programmers stealing trading secrets that way.

I'm not sure why ignoring robots.txt or an IP block would violate criminal statutes. I'm not even sure why circumvention would violate civil statutes. Obeying robots.txt is common courtesy. For IP blocks /and/ people that ignore robots.t

My Dell XPS 16 has a 1920x1080 screen with RGBLED. It can, quite literally, light up a room. My previous Dell (Vostro 1500) had 1680x1050 resolution. I'm quite liking this laptop, especially since it's $1000 cheaper than a lesser equippe

NYC isn't much better. Union Square, Midtown, Downtown; full bars and I can't connect to a web page or sitting by a windowsill and dropping calls. My iPhone/AT&T is done as soon as the contract is up.

There were a number of us that built a Skype clone right after the initial Stratus release. Video/audio/text chat works pretty well over P2P, but you still need a centralized server for the initial connection (Stratus) and a way to get aro

Stratus has been around for over a year on Adobe Labs. P2P video and audio was introduced in Flash Player 10. FP 10.1 introduces multi-cast P2P and the ability to send arbitrary data over the P2P connection.

Some of us (programmers) are still upset over 3.3.1. We don't have the platform that the Daily Show has, but Apple will never receive another dollar from me. My brand new Studio XPS 16 is wonderful (the 1080p RGB LED screen is slick) and
