Kobo Libra 2 is nice. Easy to hold, has a warm toned backlight (I switched from kindle to kobo for that reason alone) and with Overdrive it’s really easy to check out library books.

Somehow I hadn’t heard of either Tile or Airtags until right now. Just so I understand, Tile was _not_ selling location data, but then last month they were bought by a company with a history of selling location data?

“Bluetooth retro phone handset” has lots of results. And there are corded ones that plug into your phone. Most of these don’t have numpads, but they must be out there!

My solution was to mute words. It was way too tedious to say “show fewer of Bob’s RTs”. So like, I muted the word “Trump”. But I use twitter in a really specific way, and I acknowledge this isn’t a great solution.

I don’t work for github, so on a personal note I was about to create an issue in a repo, and it wasn’t loading. My go to “is my router messed up?” check is to load HN because it’s so reliable and fast. And lo, the top post was about github

As a kid I lived in a small neighborhood in the small town of Montecito (adjacent to Santa Barbara) called The Hedgerow District. Some truly magnificent, towering hedges there. Roughly here https://goo.gl/maps/ckkBszjTH

Don’t they “choose” Teams because it integrates with outlook/sharepoint/etc? That seems to be the case at my job. Basically, Teams replaced Skype.

Yeah, my experience is the opposite of the person you’re replying to. I’ve asked a couple questions on geekhack and received terrific responses (I was confused about the swappability of my switches). And the dischord I visited was filled wi

Again, I wasn't commenting on _the case_, but on the topic of this particular thread, which was about news coverage of _the event_ (not the continuing news coverage, but the initial "here are the immediate facts we know"). An

I disagree given that it’s impossible to know the intentions of the gun wielder, and there is lots of precedent for people who look just like that (white man carrying an AR15) being a mass shooter. If I was marching around (legally) carryin

Seems like most new search engines are “bing + some other sources.” Just wondering, does Bing charge for this use? Personally, in the past month I’ve noticed a significant degradation of results from DDG, and since I don’t know what’s going

That all sounds reasonable. Thanks for taking the time to explain these details. And sorry for thinking you were trolling. I definitely regret chiming in. I don't like arguing on the internet, I genuinely haven't followed the case

Thank you for the explanation (genuinely). I wasn't exactly being sarcastic, though - my interest is in the messaging that this gun carries when wielding it in a urban environment during a riot.

Hey, that's my point, too! In this particular event, everyone aside from him was uninformed. Walking through the streets of a riot (I won't say "brandishing" but...) carrying what LOOKS to be a big scary gun is sending a

I hear you. Just to clarify, I wasn't forming an opinion on what happened, nor did I state an opinion on what happened. Those two selected details were basically all I absorbed. What's important to me is "why was this person

It bothers me a little that you think you just corrected me. This is an honest question: do you not understand what "opinion" means? For example, do you understand that I can say, "large gun" and that it doesn't mea

Ah, I see where you're confused. I'm not weighing in about the case. This particular thread is about the neutrality of a reporter's initial story: > I don't get why it's not reported in more neutral terms - "

You are either being intentionally disingenuous or you are so deep in this that you don’t understand how other people think. To a lot of people, giant military-looking gun = assault rifle. And saying “actually it’s technically not an assaul

I suggest not ever using the phrase “assault rifle” because you’ll just get responses where people say “it’s not an assault rifle” and they’ll think they actually won an argument.
