I used to work with Steve. He’s a good story teller. But a story teller tells good stories by having a fairly casual relationship with facts and the truth. For example, emacs lisp suffers from bitrot. Some core things haven’t changed in for

You instead accused the Linux kernel team of either "pandering to a mob" or "ungrounded in reason". Hardly charitable. Do you think everyone who has a different view from you total scum of the earth? Maybe they came to a

Also it depends on the cultural understanding that white is good and black is bad. Ditto white-hat hacker vs black-hat hackers. If you really want to build something for all times, don't load it up with cultural baggage that will go o

I find the terminology uncomfortable. I dislike it. Keeping those names is lazy naming, and we can do a hell of a lot better. The words have a ton of emotional imagery tied up, and no need to invoke it just when we are talking about IDE

If language is so unimportant, then it doesn't matter if things are renamed, right? But language DOES matter, and it DOES help people. It's a bit more abstract and decoupled, but shit, you're supposed to be a coder (you ARE

Yes climate impact via co2 load is important. But persistent environmental pollutants is also important. That's the essential problem of plastic. The ideal is a closed carbon loop, and the primary blocker here is the continued use of

This analogy is weak for a few reasons, first off companies are not doctors and with diversification no one is at risk of death. Secondly, expanding the pool of available investments with an eye towards attempting to correct systematic inju

Sigh. Really. The tweets didn’t offer “sending in the police” it threatened to send the military in. Which isn’t the police. Word matter. The fact I’m m reading this comment here is sad.

My LED bulbs last until they break. And depending on who made them, they break a lot. All my philips hue bulbs still work. Even the ones that are like 8 years old. But every bulb from ikea has broken.
