Google hasn't always been great in this area. Google dictation search is borderline unusable on my HTC android phone. All this will do is force Apple to improve. Great for everybody.

You should have seen the Santa Barbara Apple store in August on a Saturday evening. It was dead.

Are you suggesting that CEO's of companies involved in the production of voting equipment should not be allowed to have an opinion of candidates?

I also assumed systems like BART were considered "light rail". Below is a definition for others who may also not know the difference. The American Public Transit Association defines light rail and heavy rail respectively as follows: Light

Please don't equate email spam to phone call spam. A phone call often requires immediate attention to filter out. Its an interrupt-based process. Email is a different animal.

I understand these calls could be coming from anywhere, and Twilio isn't the only game in town. Since I am familiar with Twilio, and I know how easy it would be to put up a robo caller, I can't help but suspect. Its what I would use to do

I love Twilio, but every time I get a robocall to my cell phone selling me cheap insurance, I cringe a little, and wonder if Twilio is enabling this. I wish Twilio had a "is this a Twilio phone number" lookup so that I can report such acti

What happens when you perform a one-off search? For example, lets say a friend asks if you know the score to the Yankees game? You really have no interest in baseball, but you do the search anyhow. Should that really influence your Googl

If this does become commonplace, I think the likely outcome is that we see a Kinkos of 3d printing emerge.

Your presumption of what constitutes a viable third alternative is flawed. Most people (mass market) don't care about openness.

Sure. If there is really a multi-million dollar market opportunity, why not build it themselves instead of buying a start-up. The publishers already have the relationships with the schools.

Why would the publishers buy a third party service when they already have a captive audience of customers (teachers)?

Apple doesn't block what you can install. They control what you can download and sell using THEIR store. I have shared apps that I have written with other people without having to deal with THEIR appstore. Yes, Apple sells their developer

I love it when people complain about how Apple likes to control their store. Next time you are your Walmart, ask the manager ask why they engage in censorship because they don't carry your favorite magazine. And your 30% complaint is silly

Its entirely plausible that Google framed the map situation one way publicly, but another with Apple in private.

True, because Google is trying to use Google Maps as a hook into Google+ Local. For maps, it all comes back to local search.

Is this true? My understanding is that the range issue of NFC has more to do with the non-powered nature of NFC chip, thus having very limited broadcasting range. If I had a powered device that broadcasted NFC responses over a much greate

Regardless of the drama involved, the fact is that Google is competing against Apple, and maps are a significant enabler of that competition. Apple has to cut off Google in this case.

Sorry, no. I have no desire to make G+ look good or bad. Also, if I installed the G+ app 6 months ago, and then take a picture of my kid today, there is no explicit intent to engage with G+. Claiming that I "engaged" with G+ is ridiculous

G+ isn't the social network. G+ is their "social layer" on top of their existing services. When you take a picture on your Android phone, you have likely become an active G+ user as it uploads the picture to your G+ account. And this is
