If you don't have a lot of projects, it may be better to transfer them into a newly registered organization because that doesn't require a temporary drop of the namespace. Either way, you'll break the redirect, but that'

The same problem exists, but has less of an impact on other platforms as well. For example, switching to a domain based handle on Bluesky will make your old handle available for re-registration. That makes you vulnerable to impersonation

I've read parts of the docs, but I guess it'll take a bit to see how it works in practice. The docs [1] list some of my concerns as "What Sigstore Doesn't Guarantee". That same doc also says: > Fulcio was design

Couldn't you say those same things about the current providers for code signing certificates? It almost sounds like a trade of one subpar solution for another. What do I get as a consumer trying to verify an identity? The way I see i

No. I would use domain as a vanity pointer and a permanent account as the source of truth that clients use to download packages. You have to assume the domain can be dropped and re-registered by a bad actor, so a permanent account with pr

I think domain verified namespaces would make a difference. If I own example.com, it makes sense for my namespace to be @example.com (pypi.org/@example.com/project). If all namespaces were domain based it would reduce impersonati

There are a couple things i don’t like about this trend. First, I have idle accounts for brand protection. I really dislike being forced to participate in the handle registration gold rush to begin with. Now I’ll have to set aside a day e

There's a good chance it would be considered a "bad faith" complaint. It's called reverse domain name hijacking [1] and is specifically addressed in the UDRP. If you lose the dispute, you'll never buy the domain fo

I was trying to decide this a few years ago when I found the best .com I'll ever own. It's only 8 characters and I was able to get matching social media handles everywhere but Twitter. My main concern was that someone with more m

I just want the option of using my domain name as a verified handle everywhere. I’m so tired of having to participate in the gold rush to grab my handle for brand protection, especially on platforms I barely use.

Every time I see one of these roll out with dots allowed in the username [1], I wonder what they’re thinking. YouTube just made that (IMO) mistake with their new handles and now Discord is doing the same. I think it’s a mistake because usi

I’ve been thinking about this a bit more. What happens if the server operator bans a DID? Does that ban the DID across the whole network via federation? What if I run my own server? Does that make me un-bannable? Is there even such a th
