I wish there was more awareness in the general business community about how much effort goes into developing mobile apps. So few potential clients I encounter fully realize how much work goes into it, and when you give them an estimate the

I completely agree, the way I've always perceived mark zuckerberg is as someone just pretty obsessed with building & tinkering. Sure maybe the initial spark that seeded the first build of facebook could have had something to do with emo

Even $39/mo is still prohibitive. Considering the cost of modern cloud hosts, your bottom plan is still more expensive than a web server in some cases... As someone building a bootstrapped side project with absolutely zero customers, I woul

Your post did a good job of pitching chargify, I was passing it around the other day for justification to go with them. Such a bummer that they pulled this

Wow thats a real bummer, I was about to integrate it into an app, but I certainly don't want to blow $99/mo on something that may or may not earn me a small fraction of that Has anyone used Spreedly or CheddarGetter etc? Thoughts? Are there

I don't think sending your users emails should be considered spam. Mailing lists and email upsells can be very lucrative, even if you're not emailing users immediately, an email address is a valuable thing to be leaving on the table.

Ok, but from an economic perspective - if Topix is not collecting email addresses, how can they monetize all these people in the long run? From a marketing & user retention standpoint isn't that throwing away a pretty valuable channel?

So because the british committed atrocities through policy decisions over the course of several centuries, I shouldn't be offended by cuddly representations of hitler - a man that presided over the slaughter of several generations of both m

Well he was a major player in european politics for over 10 years. I know my history - the point is that hitler had an overwhelming influence on the 30's and 40's in europe and touched a disproportionate number of topics from 1933-1945

You didn't overreact. Apparently there are a lot more people on this board who are insensitive to what Hitler represents than I would have given it credit for. Very disappointing

I'm sure people would be equally offended as I am if the app had cutesy pictures of Pol Pot, or Stalin or any other brutal dictator known for mass genocide

Ok, I get it. But I'm not amped by it. 2 reasons: 1) Hitler is associated with way too many entries, I mean for 10 years he controlled most of europe, there isn't a topic in 20th century history he doesn't touch at some point. Its too easy

Has this ever worked for you in the longer term? I mean from experience have you ever been paid out for taking an equity trade as a consultant? I'd really like to hear from someone who's made this work to their benefit

Also, don't discount your work for equity. Very not worth it. Learned this lesson twice now. Biggest reason - if a company is coming to you to build their whole product under a contract, they're making a major blunder out the gate. Any seas

Here's an idea - you could do consulting work and focus on startups. Metrics are becoming increasingly notable as an important part of running a startup. I imagine that your skills are useful to some folks who are on the fence or don't have

Isn't the attitude of "If Company A Wins, Company B Loses" kind of a dangerous mindset to have when you're running a startup?
