Not true. Every (decent) journal has someone who goes through the typesetting process again is very time consuming. Whether that plus the review process, website maintenance etc it is worth £2,700 is a separate question.

"you swipe through 30 HN stories a day" I don't know who does that. I look at titles and decide which ones I want to look at. With tiktok, you don't know what's coming next, and normally it takes you at least one or

Why go as far as self-hosting, they should be all open source and IT admins will be able to fix bugs themselves. (Of course this is sarcasm, just the way you want it)

No point with arguing with these people. I have noticed that people love their operating systems, especially in the Mac camp, even if switching to a different operating system would make almost no actual day-to-day difference in experienc

Eh, that's not how it works. Web engines do a great job at providing accessibility for basic stuff, but to make an application and its content fully accessible, you would need to have accessibility as a requirement from the very beginn

"I don't want" That doesn't mean anything or change anything, sorry. Maybe you can refuse to use Teams provided by your employer and quit your job just because of that, but nobody else does.

I know it's not your main point, but I need to mention that the failure of Stadia does not indicate the failure of cloud gaming in general but the problem of Stadia itself. There are plenty of other cloud gaming options growing every d

Eh, most people looking at this don't consider dota 2 in the same bucket as the cloud gaming concerned here. It means Assassin's Creed played on Geforce Now or Forza Horizon played on Xbox Game Pass. My very loose definition is th

To put it in perspective, a new car typically has a 3-5 year warranty while a new phone has a one year warranty (unless the local law requires a longer warranty). btw Android is not an end product like a car and Google doesn't really &

Agreed. I don't know why "trailing commas allowed" is a plus -- it is not going to make things simpler or easy to maintain, and it is very questionable whether the added flexibility is worth it

Engineering is a matter of tradeoffs. With JavaScript, you get simplicity but lose strict typing (can be compensated with TypeScript), performance etc. Rust gives you much better performance but is more complicated to write. However, for a
