I really don't know all of the details on this situation, so perhaps this doesn't apply... but it does occur to me that often people don't realize they've crossed the line until somebody (maybe many somebodies, if they're stubborn) points i

I'm very aggressive about starring things. I only middle-click things that immediately pique my curiosity or that are time-sensitive. If it's something long or that I can read later, it goes into the starred bin. What's wound up happening

This system is the entire reason I switched to RSS (first with NetNewsWire, now Google Reader) in the first place. I found myself wasting an incredible amount of time just reloading a website to see if anything's new, processing the page,

You don't have to change it. Type in the same password if you really want. Of course, if you knew what the password was in the first place, you wouldn't have needed to reset your password...

I haven't watched the demo video yet... but looking at the screenshots, I'm pretty sure I could see using this as a third knowledgebase alongside Google and Wikipedia for those "I wonder how many..." or "What's the per-capita indcident rate

We'll give you Hulu if you give us the BBC iPlayer. ;-) A bit more seriously, even when/if they do bring it to other countries I'm doubtful the entire catalog would be opened up - it would likely be on a show-by-show, country-by-country bas

I know this has been submitted several times and killed because people are sick of this topic - but seriously, I think Fowler's take is insightful and well worth a read for anyone who manages or is interested in fostering a community. Pleas

Indeed - I'm not a Java or C++ programmer, but I was finding this conversation rather interesting to follow along.

There's actually a very significant difference - a symlink just resolves to a fixed path, whereas an alias always resolves to the same file/folder, no matter where it is moved within the filesystem. They remember things like which volume

Not that I'm necessarily advocating this post - but quite a few hacker communities (Slashdot, chiefly) had much discussion about Columbine due to the popular image in the media of them being bullied, outcast nerdy types. In some areas, ther

Heck, I know quite a few US ISPs that do that - as well as some WiFi hotspots. Usually it's just a block on outbound connections on port 25, and you can get around it by using a different port (587 typically works, and is semi-standard).

I'm rather surprised they don't support Gears' built-in Wifi geolocation support. But yes, right now it's incredibly hit or miss. I'm sitting in a Starbucks in Rochester, NY and it pegged my location as San Jose.

Yet, there's nothing in the license keeping you from downloading it, removing the license code yourself, and running it registration-free. (Your personal sense of morality may differ, I suppose.) For curiosity's sake, what would be the lega

As far as massively overloaded shared hosts go, they're not bad. Support for almost everything you could ever want, reasonably decent customer-support (as long as you don't mind their rather foot-in-mouth snarky approach - which I honestly
