Yep, and to add, we have proof there is no perfect system: http://tech.mit.edu/V123/N8/8voting.8n.html (Not to suggest we shouldn't move on from the very flawed FPTP!)

Well, more attempts at this problem come along pretty often (speaking for Haskell at least, and I expect those attempts to be more mature than the other languages you mentioned), so I don't think you can say those languages have solved

Hm maybe. But I only tried sites that I already had open in safari with zero problems. Someone else suggested maybe a plugin was screwy; that seems plausible to me.

Hm, I didn't try disabling plugins. Good call, let me try that.

I also like the new design, but I switched back to Safari after a day because Firefox kept taking 150% CPU. It was actually really snappy at first. I'm not sure what happened. But yea it wasn't just a one time thing.

I don't mean to be glib, but, are you saying women who are in a poor state are desirable? I don't think so... Is it bad that women don't find some men attractive, when those same men probably wouldn't find some women att

Well if it were designed as an earnest feature, it would go on the side right? I can't imagine any UX pro saying 'let's plop this right in the middle of their requested content'. So I see it as pretty cynical. Any time s

I actually thought about youtube as a contrasting example. Youtube has their recommendations on their homepage— that makes sense to me. I haven't chosen any content yet, so they want to help me. But in this case on Twitter I've al

Wow, I think my experience has been different. Redditors seem to pile on a 'wrong' opinion and downvote to oblivion, whereas HN seems more evenhanded to me. I'm sure it depends on the subreddit though.

Thanks, that seems close to what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure how to get a keybind that has behavior similar to scrollback mode. I think tmux is missing the ability to give control over to an arbitrary shell command. For exam

I wish tmux had the ability to pipe the buffer to some external program, e.g. vim. Their vi-mode is okay, but it's never going to be the same as native vim with my configs, plugins, etc. That aside, I do really enjoy tmux and appreciat

A lot of these answers are about finding things other than programming, and I think that's great. But as some additional perspective- I believe I was in a similar position to you, and what saved my career was functional programming. Ba

It's wild to me that 1. There are tons of replies in this thread. People have very strong feelings about signal. 2. Some people feel VERY STRONGLY that the pin numbers are stupid, and it has a terrible UX. 3. Some people feel VERY STRO

Good point. I did assume the idea for this change originally started with someone that felt personal harm from it, but I have no evidence of that.

A lot of the other comments here seem absurd to me. We should all be able to imagine terminology that would be repulsive. (I.e., imagine if some tech term or project name were a racial slur. Would you really argue against changing it?). So

A coworker introduced me to the concept of a 'novelty budget', and I find it really useful. If my team is taking on a new project, there are many ways to improve on how things have been done in the past. But doing anything new car

I use Lyft, which has always had tipping, and I don't find this to be an issue. Usually I am the one that starts the conversation. And I'm no fan of tipping in general, but there's a lot more to a ride besides conversation th

I just went through a long period of self reflection that I found very helpful. It wasn't easy, but there wasn't really another option as I didn't have the energy to try new things. Now I am doing new things again and it is o
