I struggle to get github copilot to create any unit tests that provide any value. How to you get it to create really useful tests?

One of the reasons I use Java is for type safety. What's the point when your app compiles OK but then doesn't start because Spring can't satisfy all the dependencies or choose which one. I spend hours trying to get the config

Ugh that sounds like the Spring effect. I really like Java but Spring and IoC/DI makes it very complicated.

Its really disappointing that VBA stopped improving since 20 years ago. Imagine if you could embed C# or even better F# in workbooks, and also have a way to better way to package libraries. We wouldn't see Python notebooks.

My anecdote is we have Github Copilot at work and its often hit and miss. I often get out my phone and use chatgpt or claude to get better answers.

Journalists barely exist any more. To be a good journalist you have to know the subject matter well. If journalists are paid so little you might as well work in the industry directly. With AI its only going to get worse.

When AWS started charging for IPv4 addresses I started switching to IPv6. I spent a few days getting it all up and running. I thought it was OK but my router kept crashing every day, then I noticed I can't get working from some places

Always when I read this I think they are comparing too very different societies where healthcare is just one factor. Americans are so much less healthy than Australians due to lack of exercise, poor diets, stress, no holidays, guns and crim

I've looked before for good online communities but never found one, I'd be interested if anyone has a source. The best people work for hedge funds so wont disclose anything and the individuals out there mostly are clueless or luck

I remember all the hate USA got when it didn't sign the Kyoto Protocol. Its emissions have fallen ever since then, despite population rising by a quarter.

Its crazy to see the NY times talking about how people are thinking of leaving Florida. In reality people still are leaving NY state - we're down a million people since Covid started, Florida is up 1 million in the same time.

Snopes says that in the UK 9 children died on pen lids between 1970 and 1984. Since the holes in the lids zero children choked to death. Is the 100/yr in the USA really true? https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/holes

No, this is a bit of a myth. In the dotcom boom in the 90s mortgage rates were higher than today. In 2010-2015 rates were zero but no tech boom.

I think most of the discourse is about fees students pay, so $$$ for US vs free for Europe. When you see $38k for US vs $32k for UK then its a different problem.
