With equivalent OS interaction, and no JOINs/seeks, the RDBMS could actually be faster, as there is no overhead of storing the name of every col in every record. I still like MongoDB though. During dev it's nice to not have to worry so much

No wonder the only winners are usually the banks and legal advisors, and sometimes senior management at the acquired company. As an INTC shareholder I am pissed about this. A 60% premium? WTF.

Sorry, but you will probably never have true security, or become truly wealthy, working for someone else. If some deep part of you wants to try starting a company, it's not healthy to suppress that, and if you do, my guess is you'll eventua

The EVO is worse. It's "Sent from my HTC EVO 4G on the Super Awesome Sprint 4G Network - The World's First NOW! Network!1" or some ultra-long BS like that. I might be exaggerating a bit, but not much. I guess it's an multi-vendor arms race.

Yeah. Most tech companies are facing an "uncertain economy" yet the execs are still paying themselves $300k/yr cash and as-much-as-possible w/ options/RSUs. If you are talented, you can negotiate. Many people in senior management are insecu

On the contrary, it only takes about 4 weeks to try a new protein/fat/carb split. Try high protein and high fat, then fine tune whatever worked best for you. I agree you can't detect subtle long term health problems this way, though.

Same for cable.. on TWC I can ping 1,500 miles away in ~60ms. L3 latency is usually a small fraction of the initial website load time. Inline the js + css, strip whitespace, enable gzip, use memcached, get a server that can fit the whole DB

I'm still only a couple weeks into actually fixing it. I've started going to the gym 3-4X/wk, and switched to a clean high protein/low carb diet.

There's a huge time cost to preparing your own food from raw ingredients. I agree it's worth it, but it's definitely more expensive than hitting Jack In The Box.

As someone who followed this advice excessively, I have to counter it a bit. Through most of my 20s I lived in the cheapest, shittiest apartment I could find, ate cheap (which in the US means extremely unhealthy) food, rarely went out party

Focus on your site/content and its security (SQL injection, XSS, secure password storage, spam prevention, etc). There have been no remote-root sploits in Linux/ssh/apache in a long freaking time. If you get owned, it's probably due to your

I went through this for a few weeks before I realized the cause. For me it was social media and news sites -- especially FB, twitter, mashable, reddit, and to some extent HN. These sites are carefully designed to make you ADD, so that you

Same. Running a business is not easy, but it's the easiest way to get there IMO. It takes like 5-10M in capital to make 10k/mo "safely" on a long term basis now, which rules out an investment-only strategy for almost everybody.
